Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya is a 2300 year old Buddhist place of worship. Established in the times of King Devanam Piyatissa of the Anuradhapura Kingdom, one of the first saplings of the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree was planted here. This is an ideal place for anyone seeking a serene temple boasting of ancient vibrations. Built around and within a giant boulder-like rock formation, the temple looks out to paddy fields and small hamlets. There is not much to walk around or to even look at, but if you would like to be a part of history that goes beyond time to the results of Kings, then this is the ideal place for you.
It is most important Buddhist cave temple in the unawatuna area which belongs to 3rd Century BC. There can be seen many of Temple painting in the inside of the cave wall . As well many of lotus medallions have been painted surface of the cave. The temple has many of Archaeological ruins in the temple. I think it is the most attractive archaelogical place in the area. Wrestlemania local people and other people are come here to see those important Temple

This temple is a historical place and it was made under a rock thats why it's called yatagala.(Under the rock)
Wonderful stupa and small temple - with the requisite reclining Buddha - in a serene area away from all the hustle and bustle; comparatively few tourists, no horrifically overpriced (and discriminatory) entry fees, and serene! Worth a visit if one has time!
Small temple with fantastic atmosphere. Very quiet, peaceful with really beautiful caves, buildings and statues.
Lovely little temple with so much depth and awesome architecture!
