This Rjamaha Vihara is situated inPasdun Korale which was blessed by the Warrior Veediya Bandara – the Sub-King and the Commander in Chief of the Kotte Kingdom and has been providing an excellent service to the people of Sri Lanka for more than a century.
At the time Sri Lanka got the independence, this Rajamaha Vihara was capable enough to offer the nation two great theros (Buddhist monks) namely The Most Venerable Bopitiye Gnanananda Maha Thero and The Most Venerable Walallawita Sri Saddhananda Maha Thero.
The Most Venerable Yagirala Sri PagnanandaMahanayaka Therobecame a reputed monk following the advice of The Most Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Mahanayaka Thero. He inherited a couple of Relics of the Lord Buddha from his lineage of teachers which goes back to the era of Kotte Kingdom.
Walallawita Rajamaha Vihara is lacking a stupa for ages even though it is fortunate enough to possess two Relics of the Lord Buddha and to be a reputed temple in Sri Lanka.
2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi was celebratedisland wide on the Vesak Poyaday in 2012 in a grand scale but no one in this country had taken any step to build a monument which would last for centuries in memory of this special event.
Considering all the facts relevant to those issues, The Most Venerable Wlallawita Sri Saddhananda Nayaka Thero(the chief incumbent of Walallawita Sri Suwisuddharama Rajamaha Vihara and Maligawaththa Sri Bodhirajarama Vihara) and The Most Venerable Uwathenne Sumana Nayaka Thero(the Pupil of The Most Venerable Bopitiye Gnanananda Nayaka Thero)decided to build a stupa in memory of 2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi at Walallawita Sri Suwisuddharama Rajamaha Vihara in Kalutara District in which 80% of population are Buddhists.
The proposed 180 feet tall stupa is remarkable as it is the one and only monument which would bring back the memory of 2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthicelebration in Sri Lanka. According to the present economic atmosphere, it is estimated that the proposed project would cost more than 100 million rupees. As there is no any direct sponsorships for this highly meritorioushistoric project, The Most Venerable Uwathenne Sumana Nayaka Thero expects to complete it with contributionsof the generous people of Kalutara and islandwide.
The Most Venerable Uwathenne Sumana Nayaka Thero has proven capability of completing any kind of difficult task successfully by being the pioneer of the great Jaya Pirith chanting ceremony done in the time of the presidential election campaign in 2005,with the participation of 5000 theros at Sugathadasa Stadium to bless then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksha and the country. So it is doubtless that this great project also would be completed successfully within a short period time.
The organizing committee expects, under the leadership of The Most Venerable Uwathenne Sumana Nayaka Thero, the foundation stone to be laid with the hands of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksha, the President of Sri Lanka accompanied by all the political leaders in Kalutara District.

කලුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පස්දුන් කෝරළය ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය ඉතිහාසය තුළ බැබලීමට මහා පුරුෂයින් දෙදෙනෙක් පුරෝගාමී වූහ. ක්‍රි.වර්ෂ 16 වන සිය වසේ ලක්දිව ආක්රතමණය කළ පෘතුගීසීන්ට එරෙහිව අභීතව අදීනව සටන් කළ ජාතියේ මහ සෙනෙවි, වීදිය බණ්ඩාර රණශූරයාණන් ඉන් ප්‍රථමයාය.එතුමාගේ අධිරාජ්‍ය විරෝධී අන්තිම සටන සිදු කළ බලකොටුව ස්ථාපිත කර තිබුණේද සුපතළ පස් යොදුන් කෝරළයේ්යස.

ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය සංඝ සමාජ ඉතිහාසයේ පහතරට අවසන් සංඝරාජ ධූරය හෙබවූත්, හෙළයේ මහා පඬිරුවනක් වූත්, අතිපූජනීය යගිරල ශ්‍රී ප්‍රඥානන්දාභිධාන මහානාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේ පස් යොදුන් කෝරළය පමණක් නොව මුලු මහත් ලංකාද්වීපය ම ආලෝකවත් කළ අනෙක් මහා පුරුෂයාණන්ය. එම යතිවරයාණන්ගේ පුරෝගාමීත්වයෙන් ගොඩනැගුණු වලල්ලාවිට ශ්‍රී සුවිසුද්ධාරාම මහා විහාරස්ථානය තවත් සංඝ පීතෘවරයාණන් දෙනමක් ජාතියට දායාද කළේය.බෝධිසත්ව ගුණෝපේත පූජ්‍ය බෝපිටියේ ඥානානන්ද මාහිමි සහ පූජ්‍ය වලල්ලාවිට ශ්‍රී සද්ධානන්ද මාහිමි යන නායක ස්වාමින් වහන්සේලා ඒ සුවිශේෂ සංඝ පීතෘන් වූහ.

පස් යොදුන් කෝරළයට අයත් ඉහත කී වලල්ලාවිට ශ්රීන සුවිසුද්ධාරාම මහා විහාරයට ගෙවීගිය සිය වසකට ආසන්න කාලය පුරා අඩුවක්ව පැවතුණේ චෛත්යත රාජයාණන්වහන්සේ නමකි.ඒ සුවිශේෂ කාරණය කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කළ වත්මන් විහාරාධිපති පූජ්‍ය ඌවතැන්නේ සුමන නාහිමියන් ක්‍රි.වර්ෂ 2012 වෙසක් පුන් පොහෝ දිනයට සමගාමීව 2600 ශ්‍රී සම්බුද්ධත්ව ජයන්තිය සමරමින් කල් පවත්නා බෞද්ධ සිහිවටනයක් ඉදිකිරීමට ජාතිය සමත් නොවීමත් සැලකිල්ලට ගනිමින් බෞද්ධ ජනයා 80% කට අධිකව ජීවත් වන කලුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ අප රජමහා විහාර භූමිය තුළ 2600 ශ්‍රී සම්බුද්ධත්ව ජයන්ති චෛත්‍ය රාජයාණන් වහන්සේ ඉදිකිරීමට තීරණය කළහ.

පූජ්‍ය වලල්ලාවිට ශ්‍රී සද්ධානන්ද නාහිමි හා බෝධිසත්ව ගුණෝපේත පූජ්‍ය බෝපිටියේ ඥණානන්ද නාහිමියන්ගේ ශිෂ්‍ය රත්නය වූ වලල්ලාවිට ශ්‍රී සුවිසුද්ධාරාම මහා විහාරය හා කොළඹ මාලිගාවත්ත ශ්‍රී බෝධිරාජාරාමය යන උභය විහාරාධිපති පූජ්‍ය ඌවතැන්නේ සුමන හිමියන් අධිෂ්ඨාන සහගතව සැලසුම් කර ඇති අඩි 180කට වැඩි උසකින් යුත් මෙම යෝජිත මහා චෛත්‍ය රාජයාණන්වහන්සේ කලුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කය ප්‍රමුඛ මුලු මහත් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවටම ආලෝකයක් ලබාදීමට දායක වනුයේ 2600 ශ්‍රී සම්බුද්ධත්ව ජයන්තිය සමරා මෙවන් අසිරිමත් නිර්මාණයක් රටතුළ ඉදිකිරිමට අපොහොසත් වූ පසුබිම තුළය. වත්මන් භාණ්ඩ සහ සේවා මිලට සාපේක්ෂව රුපියල් කෝටි 20කට අධික පිරිවැයක් සහිත මෙම මාහැගි චෛත්‍ය රාජයාණන් වහන්සේ ඉදිකිරීමේ ව්‍යපෘතිය උදෙසා අනුග්‍රහක දායකත්වයක් නොමැති අතර,මූලික වශයෙන් කලුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේත්,පොදුවේ ගත්කළ මුලු මහත් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසී ශ්‍රද්ධා සම්පන්න බෞද්ධ ජනතාවගෙත් නොමසුරු දායකත්වයෙන් මේ සුවිශේෂී නිර්මාණය ගොඩනැගීමට අප අති පූජ්‍ය ඌවතැන්නේ සුමන නාහිමියන් අපේක්ෂා කරති.

මේ මාහැඟි ව්‍යපෘතියට මුල්ගල තැන්පත් කිරීමට අතිගරු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිඳුන් හා ගරු ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමන්ගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් හා කලුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ සියලුම දේශපාලන නායකයින්ගේ සහභාගිත්වයෙන් සිදු කිරිමටත් සංවිධායක කමිටුව තීරණය කොට ඇත.මෙම 2600 ශ්‍රී සම්බුද්ධත්ව ජයන්ති චෛත්‍ය රාජයාණන් වහන්සේ ඉදිකිරීමේ මාහැගි පුණ්යෙ කර්මය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසී බෞද්ධ සැදැහැතියන්ගේ නොමසුරු මූල්‍යමය හා ද්‍රව්‍යමය අනුග්‍රක දායකත්වයන් හා ආධාර,පරිත්‍යාග ලබා ගැනීම උදෙසා බුද්ධ ශාසන හා ආගමික කටයුතු අමාත්‍යංශයේ ආශිර්වාදයත් ගරු පොලිස්පතිතුමා ප්‍රමුඛ පොලිස් දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සහයෝගාත්මක දායකත්වයත් ලැබී ඇති බවත් කෘතවේදීව මතක් කළ යුතුය.

මේ මාහැඟි පුණ්‍ය කර්මයට සැදැහැති ඔබගේ නොමසුරු මූල්‍යමය හෝ ද්‍රව්‍යමය අනුග්‍රක දායකත්වය ලබා දී අප ජීවත්වන මේ සුවිශේෂ යුගය අනාගතයේ තවත් වසර දහස් ගණනක් පුරාවට සනිටුහන් කිරීමට පුරෝගාමී වන්න. චෛත්‍ය ඉදිකිරීමක් යනු මහත්ඵල මහානිශංස ලබාදෙන මහා පුණ්‍යකර්මයක්ය යන්නත්, එය දෙලොව වැඩ පිණිස හේතු වන්නක් බවත්, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසී බෞද්ධ සැදැහැතියන් ඉතාමත් හොඳින් අවබෝධ කොටගෙන ඇති බවත් සත්‍යයකි. මේ සත්කාර්යට ඔබගේ මාහැඟි දායකත්වය ලබා දීම වැදගත් වන්නේද එබැවිණි.
