This is an ancient temple in sri lanka. It's history goes back to the time of king walagamba (89-77 BC) . This palce is also known as the "ගලේ පන්සල" (gale pansala) among the villagers. It is a calm and quiet place for worshiping.
Cool surrounded ancient rock temple which was located the kirillawala area.Almost few kilometers far from the main road(A1). The old temple was located on upper side of the rock and its not hard to climb the rock. Can see some ruins of its ancient ones and also its soo crowded at evening sessions.
One of the best Rajamahaviharaya I have seen. More like Varana. Really a quite place. Nice view. Very historical place. Recommended.

Lying in the Gampaha District in a simple and a tranquil village, Weboda Gallen Raja Maha Viharaya has a history going back to the period of King Walagamba (89-77 BC).
This temple is also locally known as Gale Pansala (temple of the rock) since this temple lies on a rock and ‘Punchi Sri Pada” due to the Buddhas foot print carved on the top of the rock.
Weboda Temple is also mentioned in ancient poetry books such as Hansa Sandeshaya (13th century) and Mayura Sandeshaya (13th century) indicating that this temple has been flourishing though out the history.
The temple has a rock pool on the way to the top of the rock. Its said that this pool never go dry even in worst droughts. In addition, the temple consists two cave image houses and remains of a encient building called Ranaraja Hall.
