Nice place to visit. if you visit there you can learn lot of information about irrigation system in Sri Lanka. Welfare canteen is available. Enough parking space also available.

It’s a very nice view from here around the dam area. You have to get prior approval to go inside the Dam but there is no ticket or approval for observation center. There are many images and prototype models are available to send understand the surroundings and history of the construction. It’s a must see.

We have to travel 8km inside to Visit the dam for the highway. This route is very good and have a strong Natual cover with the forest. The entrance fee is free for all and every one can have a quick History Lesson by the memorials held in the Center. You can have a whole watch of the dam from here. It also gave a restaurant there where you can have tasty ice creams

Itz a amazing place you should visit. Since the area close at 4.0 p.m. free of charge to visit this place. They will give a good information about the history.

Nice place to observe the Victoria Dam and the view is breath-taking. There is no entrance fee and anyone can visit this place and observe the dam. If anyone is really lucky enough, there would be a chance to observe the spill gates are being opened which is a rare incident.

A good viewing point of Victoria dam. Well maintained. Bathroom facilities are their too. The caretaker has a huge amount of first hand knowledge and experience about the project, 40+ years. He is a good source of information.
Getting access to dam's internal chambers is very lengthy process.

You can enter here free of charge. At the entrance you have to give some details for the security officers.
The vicinity of the location is unbelievable. You can imagine how workers worked hard to create this amazing structure.
The dam is located in between two mountains.
A cable tied to those mountains helped to move workers, machinery and concrete to various locations of the dam.
This cable was named Blondin after the French tightrope walker Charles Blondin.

As access to the dam is prohibited (temporary I guess), tourists can get a good view of dam from here. There are historical info displayed here if you are interested. Entrance is totally FREE!!!

Victoria Dam is an arch dam located in the Mahaweli River’s mouth. It’s main purposes are irrigation and hydroelectric power production. It is the tallest dam in Sri Lanka, and supports a 210 MW power station, the largest hydroelectric power station in the country.
