  Velgam Wehera, Historical Buddhist Temple. During the war it was attacked by terrorists. If you visit still you can see the history.

  Velgam Vehera is a historical Buddhist temple situated in Kanniya, Trincomalee District, Sri Lanka. It also known to Hindus as Natanar Kovil.

  An ancient temple which has undergone by several invasions as well as terrorists attacks during the war period. An archeological site of a large Buddhist temple is present. Ruins of ancient Buddhist shrine and a stupa accompanied with other buildings of a temple is still present. A number of stone scripts also can be seen within the premises. Stone made arts and crafts have been well used to decorate the constructions also can be seen as ruins. Aside the archeological site the newly built temple can be found. Good place to visit. Calm environment.
  The temple provides lodging facilities from small AC rooms to large halls for huge crowds. Local travelers tend to stay night at the temple.
