Another important religious place in Anuradhapura..it was built by king Dewanampiyathissa at early stage of Anuradhapura kindom..Thuparamay sthupa is very beautiful place.

First Stupa built after Arhat Mahinda thero’s visit to Lanka. Built by King Devanampiyatissa which was one of the first Buddhist monument built in Mahamewna park, Anuradhapura.

Thuparamaya is an ancient Buddhist temple in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Located in the sacred area of Mahamewna park, the Thuparamaya Stupa is the earliest Dagoba to be constructed in the island, dating back to the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa (247-207 BC)

One of the oldest temples in Sri Lanka, although revamped and restored many times to look nothing like it previously looked. Worth a stop while visiting the entire site. Especially when doing it by bicycle since it is on the way back to the city
