Pros: room was basic but comfortable, very close to ruins, bike rental avail, dinner was great and plenty of food
Cons:
- on arrival we were presented with the owners Safari tour option and even after we explicitly told him many times that we already had one booked and we were not interested he persisted. It was a bit relentless and unnecessary. He will point to handwritten reviews in a book as well as the good reviews from his booking service provider. These can be controlled though (say, only offer book for people to write in who he thinks enjoyed the tour, and cancel reservations after checkout for those who he doesn’t think a good review will be written for). Smells fishy! (We did a normal Safari with someone else and it was really amazing so go with what you find online that has good reviews)
- our room had no sink but we were only given another room after asking. Why wouldn’t they give us this before? It’s weird not to have a sink (not to mention still pay full price). Also toilet was substandard (broken bit, a bit loose on the floor)
- on checkout we were presented with a bill that included 300r for bike rental - we enquired before taking them out and was told it was free. We questioned this and it ended up with the owner yelling at us and him telling us that his mother couldn’t understand English well (she should have got him to answer the query if she wasn’t sure!). Bad customer service and completely unnecessary and made us uncomfortable. We ended up paying the extra and were also trying to suggest that pricing needed to be more transparent.
- the icing on the cake - after we left he cancelled our booking so we couldn’t leave a review. This means we needed to link up with our service provider and make sure it was reinstated so we can review this properly to warn others plus also make sure we didn’t get charged a cancellation fee. Also, this happened even after I tried to offer a slight olive branch by letting him take a picture of me with his kid after he yelled at us(kid was super sweet btw)response / report this review -

Friendly service. Great place for a short stay because rooms are not very roomy. Has all the basics amenities you'll need. Jeep safari can be also arranged through the owner of the guest house (he owns a safari jeep)
Room prices were around LKR 5000 for 2 people
Safari - LKR 8000
Also it's better to contact the place and confirm the prices beforehand because they are always subject to changes.response / report this review -

Absolutely awesome!
This was the best place we stayed on our trip through Sri lanka. We wanted to stay only two nights but we stayed 4 :) It’s great location for day trips. We made most of the triangle places from here. Dont forget to take the safari trip, its awesome and worth every penny! You will see not just the safari but also the small forest villages, lakes and places u will normally never visit. And im not talking about the hospitality, we felt like home here, thank you Kelum!!response / report this review -

Two stars for the location (very close from ruins) and a spacious shower. BUT. If you are not super positive enough to keep saying 'no thanks' like more than 10 times per day to your hosts, please stay away. They even started to send a bunch of spam emails to sell extras from a day before my arrival. Once I was there, they started to more actively pushing me by keep showing photos and reviews even though I said no clearly with valid reasons. Their questions were all related to what they can sell more and hardly found any genuine hospitality from them. Basically their two main extra selling items are dinner (600 rupee per person) and safari tour. Of course bike rental (300 rupee per bike) and tuktuk are also the part of their extras as well. I have been traveling Sri Lanka for 2 weeks so far and this was the most uncomfortable guesthouse experience.

Pokoje sa bardzo budżetowe i bez okien, rodzina wlascicieli jest nastawiona na kasę kasę kasę. Tanie pokoje próbują wyrównać sobie finansowo czymś innym. Wypożyczyli nam rowery: jeden byl totalnie bez hamulców, w drugim spadał łańcuch a gdy go wymieniono to kolejnemu odpadał pedał.. Historia z rowerem skończyła się tak, że miałam dzięki temu wypadek i wylądowała z rozciętą nogą w szpitalu. Poza darmowym śniadaniem (skromne) zaoferowano nam obiad, ale nie był on warty zawyżonej ceny (obiad 500 rupi od osoby). Syn właścicielki usilnie starał się nas naciągnąć na safari, manipujując ciągle ceną i warunkami. Ogólnie nie polecam.
