Great family run place with authentic Sri Lankan dishes cooked by the wife of the owner :-) we had fish curry and 4 different vegetable curries with lentils, green beans, potatoes and lady finger. All were excellent, we stayed 2 nights in a hotel nearby and we went to have dinner to this place on both of the nights. Highly recommended!!! :-)

Great food, much better and more authentic like in the resorts near by. The lady that was freshly cooking for us was very friendly and shared some recipes and local knowledge with us.

Eat delicious local Sri Lankan food, set in beautiful surroundings. The owners were really friendly and their new restaurant and hotel - the old building was completely destroyed in the 2004 Christmas Tsunami - is a testament to their determination to rebuild all that was lost.

We were staying at the Ananya resort nearby, but after a few days we decided to venture out to find some more authentic food. At first the restaurant looked closed, but once we found the owner he and his wife cooked us an absolute feast. Every dish was delicious, but expect to wait for them as they are all prepared from scratch once you order. Pro tip: if you are there for dinner take a torch with you as the path to the restaurant is not lit at night.

I stayed in a nearby house with friends, making Sunshine easy to go for dinner. We've enjoyed the company of our hosts, Shante and Ramani, and made friends with several tourists that stayed in Sunshine bungalows. It was great to wine&dine there along with nice guitar music provided by our new friend Wolfgang. Very relaxing place that sometimes feels as a fun safari as it's on the edge of a forest and you can see monkeys in the trees. Authentic local cuisine made by Ramani is really great!

Great place to stay and relax for a few days. Shantha knows lots of cool places that are really off the beaten track. They have a choice of rooms and are fabulous cooks so I would definitely recommend staying here.

Amazing home cooked, fresh food - the best rice and curry we had in Sri Lanka. The family were super welcoming and it felt like a very special gem. We were staying elsewhere but the food was not good so we had a wonder and found this place. It could be mistaken as closed but it’s not!! Hope you enjoy it 😀

Delicious! Stayed at Good Karma but found this gem of a place for the best dinners! Shantha and his wife are so friendly and welcoming. Must try the rice and curry - so good and we have eaten a lot in Sri Lanka! Shantha even drove us in his tuktuk when we were off to Mirissa - for a very good price! Thankyou so much Sunshine Cafe for delicious and authentic food.

Fabulous food at the Sunshine cafe and the best we had in Sri Lanka!
We stayed at the Good Karma Hotel, which is next to the Sunshine cafe. But we went nearly every day to the Sunshine cafe for dinner.
An important advice. Make reservations and order the day before so Shanta, the owner, can get fresh food from the local market for you.

Hidden gem in Tangalle and the best curry in Sri Lanka. They are great hosts and have the best quality food out of all the resort's in tangalle. Family run restaurant and excellent service. So happy I had the opportunity to meet them and hear how Shanta and his family survived the tsunamia. Don't eat at your hotel - eat here! You won't regret it.

We just ate the best curry in whole sri lanka. As there are not so many places to eat in the close area, it is really the place to be. The hosts were really nice.

This place is located next to the Good Karma Hotel, but is a much better place to eat. The owner Shanta and his wife Ramani are very kind people. They really make you feel at home.

The restaurant is located on the first floor, which has the advantage that you always feel a cool sea breeze instead of the heat. So don’t hesitate to go upstairs, it’s the right way :-)

The first day we ate fresh yellowfin tuna and prawns with vegetables. Great to have fresh and honest veggies with real taste instead of loads of sauce. We preordered dinner for the next day. Shanta went to the fish market and bought a Red Snapper of 1,8kg for us! He cooked it on the barbecue with coconut wood. What a great experience!

On the last day Shanta arranged transport to Colombo Airport for us. He offered to share a minivan with a couple from the Netherlands, so we could share the cost.

An important advice. Make reservations and order the day before so Shanta can get fresh ingredients of good quality for you. Don’t hesitate to ask something special. Shanta can arrange it all!
