A place where lot of incidents have taken place. Lot of elephant sightings around this area and claims are there where people say elephants come and worship the sthupa. If you're coming around noon, wear your slippers or any kind of footwear as it is very hot during the day. I got blisters all over my feet by walking barefoot. It felt like walking on fire.

There are lots of incidents related with this religious place. You can see those stuffs with photos when you get there. This place is so nice, well maintained even it is situated very far from the rural area more like middle of a forest. Yeah Somawathi National Park. You can see some Elephants at the evening times. There is a car park and they are charging some little price, as well as you can contribute for the maintains going on this Temple.

This temple is sacred as the temple of the tooth relic in Kandy. This too has the tooth relic of Buddha. ( From the right ). The Chaithya glows on occasions. Good accommodation facilities are available here from dormitories to AC Rooms for pilgrims. Non AC triple is only Rs 3500. Rooms clean bed linen clean & attached bathroom is clean. Need to book in advance.

Road way is good..better to travel in dry season, in rainy season it will get flooded.
Do concentrate only on sacredness of the place.
Unveil inner peace with Lord Buddha saying, not through blind sighting.

Ancient Buddhist temple and a very sacred place with spiritual beliefs. Situated in middle of a forest with wild animals. You may get to see some of them if you are lucky. Specially wild elephants.

It's another ancient Buddhist temple located in middle of Somawathiya National Park in Polonnaruwa. Most of the time you can see lots of wild elephants very close to the Temple.

    A place love to be..

    Sacred place.

Somawathi stupa is named after Princess Somawathi, the sister of King Kavantissa, and the wife of regional ruler Prince Abhaya. Prince Abhaya built the stupa to enshrine the right tooth relic of the Buddha.
Thara Goddess is now protecting this sacred place.
( Thara Goddess's past life is soma princess who was the queen to King Walagamba. King Walagamba was the son of King Saddathissa. King Saddasthissa was the brother of King Dutugemunu)

    This is situated in Polonnnaruwa.

A must visit place, especially if you're a Buddhist or a person with an open mind. If you are lucky enough you'll be able to witness a miracle. This sacred place is very famous for the unexplainable. Some photo proofs are kept on the temple too.
Elephants regularly tend to visit the place. Keep away from high voltage electric fences.
Btw please visit the place with decent attire.
