Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The total area of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve is 18,900 acres or 7,648 hectares. It ranges in altitude from 300m to 1,170m

Could say the best rain forest in the South Asia, may be in the whole Asia one could say. Only obstacle will be the leeches. That again mainly happen in rainy days. Best and the simplest way will be to use a piece of soap.
You will be able to see many native plants, birds and many more. Very calm place and those who visiting should also maintain silence there in side. Whole journey will be just walking on bit of a rough road, but sure you will enjoy your stay there. There are nice Eco hotels at the entrance to.response / report this review -

The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve's name translates as Lion Kingdom.
The reserve is only 21 km (13 mi) from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km (4.3 mi) from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants, and 15 or so[vague] leopards. The most common larger mammal is the endemic purple-faced langur.
Birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless greater racket-tailed drongo and the noisy orange-billed babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive red-faced malkoha, green-billed coucal and Sri Lanka blue magpie.
Reptiles include the endemic green pit viper and hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic common birdwing, butterfly and leeches.response / report this review -

A paradise for local biodiversity. Many endemic birds, butterflies, dragonflies, reptiles and plants. Can not see large mammals other than monkeys. Need a good eye or the help of a local guide to spot interesting things. Expect rains in any time of the day, especially afternoon. Rain might go on for hours or sometimes days during the rainy season. Leeches are plentiful but can easily be avoided if you stay dry and stay on the path. A must visit place if you love observing local biodiversity and wants to cover country's endemics.

Красиво. Много интересных вещей, но к сожалению из-за недостатка времени провели здесь всего 3 часа. Если вы реально захотите увидеть водопады и вершины, живность и красивые растения то ехать надо к открытию и на весь день. В выходные обычно очереди за гидами. Без гидов не пускают)
