Sensational place. Popular with locals and you can see why with their delicious and well-priced vegetarian dishes.

One of the oldest and most popular places in Colombo for those who are looking for a vegetarian dining. In my opinion the taste is okay, but falls short considering the price of each dish. The appetizers were the only things I liked during my dining.

I really liked the ambience with melodical instrumental tamil songs playing in the background. Note that you may have to wait for some time to get a table and also will find trouble parking during rush hours since they don't have a dedicated parking lot and you are forced to park in the small road which gets filled easily.

If you want a meal that will taste scrumptious on the way down and you wish to "cleanse" the system the next morning, this is is the place to be.

    Delicious food but be prepared.

An old favourite for vegetarian Indian food. Tends to get quite busy, but service is generally good. Buffet available on Sundays and Poya holidays. Portion size is satisfactory.

A calm place if you choose the right time. Good food. Will not suit your normal budget. But still the place you exactly need to spend a quality hour dining. Sunday morning would be less busy.

    Pros:
Spacey, good interior, convenient location. Vegetarian only

    Cons:
Taste is poor: considering the price, not even worth it.
Poor service: they took away my plate before I was done. Rude.
Ample food waste: they serve rice in huge quantity that no one could not finish. Why don’t they serve in smaller quantity of rice and then give more for customers who want more.
Vegan options are hard to spot.
Dosa not crispy as what I usually have.

Though this place has been around for many years we never ventured to it untill today. We were glad we chose this place right from the time we entered the restaurent hall. The place looked clean and of very pleasing ambience. The steward who took our order was of pleasing personality and helped us with the menu which ran into many pages! The choice was large with both the food and the drinks. It didnt take very long to get hot steaming food feshly prepared on our table. The special biriyani was awesome and by far the best vegetarian biriyani i have had any part of the world. The thosais and the naans were all classy n so were the veg.dishes n raithas. The food very wholesome and filling! We loved the filter coffee too which summed up our sunday night family dinner. The price finally was not exorbitant and compared to similar cuisine elsewhere in colombo could be termed reasonable. Cheers to the shsnmugas team!

Really delicious indian vegetarian dishes. Super reasonably priced. Variety of items on the menu, my favourite being the dosai options. The masala tea is my favourite! Will not disappoint when you're craving this specific kind of cuisine. Interior is clean and presentable, could improve, but really, no big deal, this kind of place you just come for the food. Family-friendly. Always a solid experience.

Absolute Class. Always make a point to visit this place whenever I visit Colombo. Tasty food. Authentic. One of the best vegetarian restaurants in Colombo. At times I feel it's a class above similar South Indian restaurants. Do not miss the typical South Indian idly, Sambar with a capital S. The dosa varieties are quite good. Excellent service. Try to be little early on weekends for there is bound to be a wait. Well, time is less important when your taste buds crave for good food..

The quality of the food here is excellent.
That is the only reason I'm giving them four stars.
The prices are higher than they should be and the waiters are not well mannered at all.
The staff want you out of your table asap, feels more like a factory than a restaurant.

LOVED IT! Affordable, authentic, vegetarian, tasty, Indian food. 3 of us has ordered food for at least 4 people and ended up paying it 600 per person ish. Thats crazy good! Place is pretty grand too. Felt like entering a temple. Staff is friendly and speaks all 3 languages fluently.

Authentic Indian food can be bought from Shanmugas for a decent price. Food is clean and tasty. You can call and place your order and collect the food or even request for delivery if you are somewhere close to Shanmugas.
