Went to the embassy along with my relative and an elderly couple with the same predicament - facing forced disembarkation from a cruise ship in Sri Lanka (next port of call was Thailand) as they had no Thailand visa and not allowed to remain on the ship in Thailand as per immigration of that country. We had letters from the cruise ship advising that we were just there for one day in Sri Lanka and any help in obtaining a transit visa for Thailand would be appreciated. We gave the information and passports to the personnel at the embassy gate. He returned after speaking with the visa agent inside and advised we were not allowed to enter the embassy without an online appointment. We advised that the online appointments available were more than a week away and asked if we would be able to speak with someone inside to explain our unique circumstances and we were greeted with anger, dismissal and shouting from personnel at the embassy. I called the embassy and was able to speak with someone inside and tried to explain our position and was told “this is not our problem m’am”. I understand following procedures and guidelines but there should be some discretion for special circumstances and moreover some kindness and customer service would have gone a long way.
GET PREPARED WITH ALL DOCS. Act like you are familiar with the embassy at the gate. (I am quite sure the security Guard not gonna hurt you as per the reviews on here) The security guard will ask for your online appointment no. Simply walk inside and there will be a small room for Visa. If you have any questions discuss it with one of individual who handed over docs and waiting for payments. (It’s hard to reach the counter to catch a staff member since it always full)
If everything ok, wait in the queue for your chance. Just hand over all the docs and he/she will ask for wait for a call from payments counter if all the things ok with you. Just make the payment and collect the receipt and you are free to go. That’s all!!!
Conclusion -
Be smart, be nice to everyone. No one is gonna hurt you here. It’s a busy place and the staff is working hard. As per my experience it’s far more better than other ugly government Offices. Again, BE PREPARED WITH COMPLETE DOCs. That’s all!!! Good luck for everyone!!!
Dissatisfied .they didint give good assistant for the customers. I have visited 3 times to get visa.even they didnt care about international organization letters.
Very nice staff. The lady who I spoke to regarding my visa was very helpful. Even the security officer was friendly. Not wasting time.
Before I visit thai embassy, I had researched about it. Most of the reviews are about negative comments. But I had no trouble at all during my visit. If you have all the document no issue at all. Remeber to put an appointment before go. They even gave me an early appointment when I explained the ugency.
Some negativities I had experienced.
They dont respond to telephones or email inquiries at all (Maybe because thai embassy is very busy).
Website is not updated at all(visa type f is not in the online appointment portal. They told me to select type ED instead of F).
Terrible service.
One of the very bad visa Embassy in Sri Lanka.
Specially doorman and other stuff no respect at all to people.
Zero efficiency! Cannot answer calls in the premises. Doorman is very rude. However you have to visit to get Thai visa. 😕 Totally disappointed.
I scared by looking at below comments. But it was not so difficult to apply Visa at this place. Our documents were completed and we followed check list available in the website. It took 10 minutes per person for the whole process.
No phone answering! And there is a doorman who acts like Mr.President shouting to guests and showing very unpleasant behavior! I visited there 2 weeks before and honestly speaking, the worst embassy!
It was very fast provided u have all the required documents.it took only 10 minutes to handover the documents.the person at the door was smiling and friendly.its good to tick off the check list and ensure all documents are there then they accept it without any fuss.
I was afraid after reading the comments over here. But nothing went wrong. If you have all the documents mentioned in their website ready, then you will not face any issues.
But there is a space to improve the efficiency and friendliness of their system.
Worse embassy service I have ever seen. First you should make an online appointment which is not even taken into consideration when u arrive at there. So they don't even use their own system. Then it's imposible to comunicate with any person besides the rude door man. The process takes forever and Noone advises you. They just say wait and u never know what is next. I spent 2 hours just waiting for a sign until finally they said we had to fill in 3 more applications and bring them 3 more pictures (good we had them)
I had a better image of how efficient and kind thai culture is as it's not the first time I apply for a Thai visa. But Colombo thai embassy is very disappointing I do not recomend anyone to go personally coz they are very rude and not helpful. There r plenty travel agencies which can do the job.
Very sad but I hope the embassy management will take action soon. There is already a system for appointments they should work with it and be more organized and kind to the people who come to the embassy .
It's true. There are difficult situations when you deal with them.
Firstly, you should know that the information that's written on their website is incomplete, so after applying three times (and being rejected three times), I learned a few things that will definitely save you time and money.
1. You need an online appointment, go on their website, make an appointment, print it - without it, they won't even look at you.
2. You need updated bank statement for the past six months (we brought that, they told us it is not the official one, even tho it was, so they asked for a stamp and signature from the bank) - so call your bank in advance to make an official letter stating your balance on each month for the past 6 months + your current balance; if it is in English, even better
3. If you are lucky and they accept your application, you will receive your passport back in 5 working days, excluding the current day (so if you apply on Monday, you will receive your passport next Monday)
4. You might end up going to the embassy many times before having your application accepted, so make sure you have plan b, c, d
Good luck!
