Ravana Falls, also known as Ravana Ella, is one of main tourist attraction in Sri Lanka. This waterfall is situated on the main road of Ella-Wellawaya, closer to Ella area. From Ella city to waterfall, it is around 7km’s. Ravana fall is one of the widest waterfall in Sri Lanka and it is around 25m high, and cascades from and oval shaped concave rock outcrop. During the rainy season, the waterfall becomes massive cascade with creating an amazing mist around it will be very nice scenery. But during dry season, the cascade reduces dramatically.
The waterfall name Ravana is connected with the legendary very powerful king Ravana which is also evidence from world famous Indian epic, The Ramayanaya. According to the legends, it is said that the Sri Lanka King Ravana, had kidnapped the Indian princes Sita, who was in love with Rama the prince in India. The reason for kidnapping Sita is said to be a revenge for slicing off the nose of Ravana’s sister by Rama and his brother Luxmana. King Ravana brought Sita to Sri Lanka and was hiding the princes in the caves, which is above the waterfall and just behind the waterfall, and the cave entrance is covered by the waterfall. It is also said according to history books that Ravana was having a flying machine and he used this machine to bring Sita from India to Sri Lanka. The cave is known as Ravana Ella Cave.

Dieser Ort ist falsch angegeben ! Hier ist kein Wasserfall. Der "richtige " Rawana Wasserfall befindet sich circa 6 km südöstlich von Ella und lässt sich über Google Maps finden !!

Right by a main road, this place is flocked with tourists taking pictures. It's a nice view but it's better seen from afar to be honest. Hawkers everywhere and you even have to pay for the toilet (hole in the ground)
