The Exclusive Gateway To Colombo, Sri Lanka
Colombo Airport Ratmalana is the First International Airport in Sri Lanka Since 1935 and presently Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited is the Airport Operator. This is a Civil Airport & facilitate International Corporate Jets, All domestic airlines as the domestic aviation hub, All aviation Training operations in Sri Lanka and navigational facilities to all international aircraft landing and overflying through Sri Lankan FIR.
Recently the Government of Sri Lanka given the supreme authority via cabinet approval to develop this Civil Airport by shifting military operations under a Master Plan call "Way to 2030" starts from 2018 and continue up to 2030response / report this review -

Airport is ok.. printout facility is not there.. for public.. if u want to take then they only accept Lankan RS , also don't accept card.. so big trouble for other country ppl..

Before check-in please do all the required shopping inside. Once you check-in the duty free ships accepts only USD and not even Srilankan currency. The airport is spacious to handle crowd at peak season. It is maintained neat. People are courteous. There are gates at two levels and if you are early to the airport better stay in ground floor.

Colombo Airport, Ratmalana (IATA : RML, ICAO :VCCC) over the last decades was the traditional Domestic Airport Hub began to realize its great inbuilt opportunities to a captive audience. The scale of the Colombo Airport, Ratmalana began to revolutionize with the emergence of super Aviation Training Hub that functioned simultaneously as the shining showpiece for worldwide Commercial Corporate Jet Operators.
The State Council of Ceylon in year 1934 selected Kandawala Estate, Ratmalana to construct the standalone destination with a Runway of 600 Yards.
27th November 1935 a De Havilland Puss Moth flown by TyndalleBisco, Chief Flying Instructor of the Madras Flying Club became the first aircraft to land Douglas DC-3 Dakota to the Ratmalana Aerodrome.
Ceremonial opening of the Colombo Airport held on 28th February 1938 by the Governor Sir Andrew Caldecott launched the Air Mail service between Colombo and Mumbai using the Mail Room at Ratmalana Aerodrome.
Presently Electronic & Air Navigation Engineering Section & Air Navigation Section provide Communication, Navigation & Surveillance facilities for Air Traffic Services in Sri Lanka Flight Information Region (FIR). Coordinate with adjacent FIRs by means of voice and data communication. This is called as colombo airport also.it handles internal flghts to all the directions in sri lanka.And beside the airport nice airforce museum also there.Its really good place to see all sort of historialcal and modern aircrafts and related things

This airport, built in 1935, was used only for activities of the Sri Lanka Air Force during the war and since the end of the war in 2009 the airport is gradually being used for civil aviation purposes.

Be aware of guys in front of the arrival hall. They will say you there is no public transport at the moment due to some riots. You will hear such a lie very often during your stay in Sri Lanka. Even some low cost hotels claim that because they want to sell you their transport. You can learn that almost in every guide book. Unfortunatelly I learnt this by experience

Second largest airport with scheduled domestic flights opened fir general public. Scheduled flights fly every Monday, Wednesday & Friday from here to Jaffna, Trincomalee in MC 60 air craft by Helitour's. Rathmalana - Jaffan 45 min - 1hr at LKR 14,500 two way 29,000. This airport is totally managed & operated by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). There are moderate facilities which are quite impressive a domestic airport & well maintained. Services are superb beyond commercial ends. This also serves as an airbase, training center, aircraft yard & SLAF operation centre. It gives superb flying experience for whoever wish to fly from here.

Ratmalana Airport (IATA: RML, ICAO: VCCC), is the first International Airport in Sri Lanka. Colombo Airport Ratmalana was the only international airport in Sri Lanka until the inauguration of Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake in 1967. This is a Civil Airport which is operating as the domestic aviation hub and the aviation training hub in Sri Lanka. There are 11 domestic airlines based at Ratmalana with hangar facilities and operating scheduled and charter passenger operations. The aerodrome is also used to train all aviation students in Sri Lanka since 1960s.
From August 2012, Colombo Airport Ratmalana declared to handle international corporate jets to provide more efficient and exclusive passenger experience. Therefore, this airport is currently operate international corporate jets in addition to domestic civil flights and training flights. Though this airport started in the year 1935, at present it is having more pleasant appearance with modernised terminal building with exclusive lounges, all services including customs, immigration and emigration and more professional & friendly staff. Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited is the airport operator of this airport.
