Palm Garden Village is a beautiful hotel just off the main road surrounded by a forest and having a small lake. There are lodges for tenants with one lodge containing 2-3 rooms. The hotel itself gives an antique feeling with its beautiful design of a past era.

    Environment - 5/5
The greatest aspect to this hotel is its environment which is quite and peaceful surrounded by the trees and giving you the feeling of being one with nature. There is a small lake alongside the hotel as well which apparently is frequented by Elephants.

    Room - 1/5
The room was adequately sized for the triple bedroom that I stayed in. It had a rather big closet, a TV area with chairs and a mirror and a desk.
However there were several negatives for me in the room.
    - The bathroom seemed clean but the commode had a big patch in it giving the appearance of it not being cleaned in a while which was a huge minus for me.
    - The shower cubicle was so small that I felt claustrophobic just being in it.
    - The AC made noise for a while, while I tried to get some sleep which was annoying.
    - Privacy seemed very low since I could clearly hear what people outside of my room were talking about and I could hear the sound within when I was outside.

    Entertainment - 2/5
A hotel is place to de-stress and enjoy taking a break from the normal routine of life and so entertainment is a huge factor in helping with it.
    - A dip in the pool is something I always like to do while visiting a hotel but unfortunately, despite its big size and calming appearance the pool was not well maintained and prevented me from getting in.
    - The TV had only 5 watchable channels and even none of the local channels were visible. When asked for help, the hotel mentioned they'd send someone but they never did.
    - There is no Wi-Fi for the rooms but only in the restaurant which is understandable. However the cell reception within my room was terrible and did not even have 3G while outside of the room had 3G and 4G at times.
+ There is a billiard room that was present and available.
+ If you like you can have long quite walks among the trees and watch the occasional elephants that come by to the lake.

    Food - 3/5
My food experience in this hotel stems from dinner and breakfast on a weekday.
    - The dinner did not have much variety but had Sri Lankan cuisine as well as a semblance of a poor western cuisine. The fried rice was not up to standard.
+ The roasted lamb at dinner was however unbelievably good and almost drowned out the rest of the poor gastronomic experience.
+ The breakfast on the other hand was extremely well done having a great Sri Lankan as well as English breakfast.

    Other
+ A big kudos to the garden maintenance staff who work tirelessly throughout the day who keeps the beautiful forest like garden maintained.
    - There is a subtle difference in treatment of the locals and foreigners.

In conclusion, this hotel was a rather nice stay despite some of its glaring problems. My mother especially seemed pleased with the hotel due to its calming and peaceful nature. For me on the other hand, it was a little dull with having nothing much to do.
It's a nice hotel to stay if you are planning to stay for several days cut off from civilization somewhat and if you are a writer looking for a peaceful time, this would be a perfect place for you.

The hotel is situated in a large serene environment and has a chalets scattered around the property.
The staff are polite, courteous and very helpful.
At present extension work is being carried out but this is not in any way causing any inconvenience to the guests.
The spread of food for breakfast and dinner was really good and the set menu lunch also had options of Western along with rice and curry.
Overall a great hotel in Anuradhapura and is located a short drive from the prominent sites.
Tip: if you are lucky you can spot wild elephants at the tank located at the edge of property.

Have been staying at this hotel for one weekend, every month, for 4 years. It is like our home away from home. Buffet breakfast is great. They often serve fresh, authentic wood fired pizza at night. The bar is well stocked.
