Named number 1 because it is right between two villages and they could not agree a name. Traditional colonial style railway station built by the British and well maintained.

This railway station, located between Waskaduwa and Pothupitiya, located between two villages near Kalutara, had NO 01 Railway Station. Afterwards I looked up the details why they did not have a name.
It is learned that this is the only station that has not been named as a name in a Sri Lanka village. This is because the Railway Station is located in the middle of the villages called Pothupitiya and Waskaduwa. Therefore, if the Waskaduwa railway station is to be named as the polonium, this will be revoked. If you go to Pothupitiya Railway Station and get the name of the station the people will be Waskaduwa. Because of this, it was impossible to take a solution and it was in which village the name of the village was given. And, due to this, NO 01 Railway station has been named without the name of both villages.

This is a very small railway station. This rail way station is unique, because, it's the only railway station in Sri Lanka that has not named after a city, or place.

It is located almost on the boundary between the villages of "Pothupitiya" and "Waskaduwa" in the Kalutara district, thus, when the station was built many decades ago, the people from both villages wanted the station named after their village. The contest to have the station named after their own village escalated so much, that it lead to riots and open fighting between the peoples of the two villages. The conflict became so bad that there was a loss of lives too.

Due to this, the then Prime Minister of Sri Lanka (named Ceylon at that time) instructed the railways officials not to give any name to the railway station, and, to simply name it as "Railway Station No. 01". That is how it stands, to date !
