The best managed place I visited was managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The caretaker is doing a great job keeping the place clean and tidy. The food was also delicious, and the portions were good too. The caretaker was polite and kind too. We would definitely go back there and recommend it to anyone.

The best place to stay in Anuradhapura Sacred City if you are in the government service or a pensioner. The location is excellent - walking distance to Maha Stupa and Maha Bodhi. Neighbouring Mirisawetiya temple/Stupa. Owned and managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Can be booked at very reasonable prices in 30 days advance of the scheduled visit.

There are 10 (non AC) rooms with attached bathrooms, double or quadruple occupancy. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited and the orderliness is maintained e.g. lights off on time, no disturbances to other guests, no partying/singing in common areas, etc. As a result, the guests can enjoy the serene and quiet environment, free from man-made noise and hassle. The rooms aren't luxurious but exceeds the expectations, for the price.

The caretaker (Sampath), his wife and the staff, do their best to keep the place clean and tidy. All meals are provided to guests, but need to be pre-ordered. Tea, coffee are served on request, billed separately. Food is authentic and served hot, the presentation is commendable. Expect little delays in service during peak days/times, which is reasonable. Had been repaired and painted recently (2022). Parking is available onsite, if traveling by public transport it's advisable to contact the caretaker and obtain contact numbers of trusted taxi drivers for transfers to the bungalow.

The original building was built during the Colonial era, housed the Government Agent of the Anuradhapura District. It's a national heritage and well preserved todate thanks to the caretaker's hardwork.

    Well-done Sampath!

A free place. The facilities are not very good. Upstairs there is a good view. But considering the convenience of the caretaker, they are keen to provide rooms on the ground floor. Request rooms upstairs when you book a room. But the floor upstairs is made of wood. Think about that too. Noise may occur.
