Rather exquisite establishment. Delicious food. Expensive as you would expect. Times stay, 2 hours or less. Must book at least 2 days in advance. High quality dishes and place, but the staff lacks in wamth and friendliness, you leave well fed but without the feeling you are a valued customer.

The food was just unbelievable amazing. The. Best. Crab. I've. Had!!! As sides we ordered the jumbo prawns in butter and soy sauce-was mind blowing. The bread was nice and warm and pol sambol was fresh and perfect. The ambiance is really nice and relaxing and the wooden furniture compliments the old Dutch Hospital building. The staff is very attentive and really helpful with suggestions and what combos go best.
Just make sure to make a reservation well ahead - even a few weeks ahead as they are really hard to get a reservation with, and no wonder why! 😋

I was really looking forward to this place, but overall I found it to be overrated. If you are going to go I do recommend reservations as the place is very popular. The food is great, but a bit overpriced. We started out with the crab salad appetizer and the grilled prawns. The grilled prawns were basically 3 medium sized shrimp on a little stick. The crab salad was better. Then of course we both had a crab. My husband got the spicy sauce while I stuck with the garlic sauce. Both great. The crab was difficult to get into as it was not really pre-cut like I am used to. They just give you this little stick- like tool to get into the crab, which I didn't really master, so I ended up using my hands. This means I was a mess! Another thing that was not my favorite was the fact it is basically open air and we were so hot. Like dripping sweat hot while trying to eat. I also realize I am a total princess and these "complaints" are pretty minimal in the grand scheme of the world. We spent about $180 US dollars, which by far (like really far) was our most expensive meal here. We both did have a beer too. So no, we would not go back due to the heat and expense, but the food was good, and the crabs jumbo!

Considered to be one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia... well haven't been in all others :))) But I have to say they offer very tasty food. The crab was delicious as well as side dishes! The restaurant is maybe a bit expensive for Sri Lanka, however it is really nice value for what you get compare to European restaurants! I would definitely recommend to all gourmets visiting Sri Lanka.

This is a place where you can experience crab meat at its best! - Make sure you do a reservation as they are constantly full!

Blown away about how good this place is. Sure, it’s expensive and a bit touristy, but they do such an exceptional job it’s totally worth it. The crab is outstanding, perfectly cooked and tasty as. The waiting staff is friendly, attentive and efficient and there is a nice atmosphere about the place. You can only get 2-hr sittings but the crab is so good you’ll smash through it with enough time to spare!!! Small island Iced tea is a great cocktail.

Large portion crabs, well flavored. Don't order the other stuff on the menu such as vegetables and fried rice as the portions are really small for the price you pay. This is a place that does crabs and does crabs very well. Would strongly recommend you'll to. Make reservations as it always runs full during dinner and lunch service. Easy to find at the Dutch hospital shopping precent

My partner and I came here after having a number of Sri Lankan friends back home in Australia recommend that we book in for dinner if we had the chance.

Whilst at the upper end of price for Sri Lanka, the crab was absolutely amazing (as you'd expect).

Make sure you book in advance (we booked ~1 month prior, but we knew January was peak season. You might get away with less notice). Also, I would recommend a sitting no later than 7.15pm - otherwise the crab size you want may be sold out.

We had 6 oysters (starter), 2 XL crabs (main) + the chocolate biscuit pudding for desert and found this to be spot on for two people.

This place is on the expensive side, but well worth it.

    The food is incredible.

I would recommend either the butter crab which takes 6 hours notice to prepare (email the day before), and the chili crab.

If you are still hungry at the end, order since of the prawns. You won't be disappointed.

Note: no alcohol served between 2pm and 5pm. So make your booking around this if you want a beer/Cocktail/etc.

Awesome food, even for a non foodie. Any visit to Colombo without coming here would be a wasted trip. Reservation is very highly recommended.

If you are looking for the best crabs/prawns in Sri Lanka - look no further. The jumbo crab and huge prawn we had were absolutely delicious and fresh. If you are debating on the cooking style, highly recommend to try the Garlic Chili or Butter Soy. I also really like the iced tea soda here!

Delicious crabs. The meat is so sweet. Price is definitely on the expensive side. I'd recommend getting the Kade bread to mop up all the extra sauce.

Best place to visit if you're a fan of Crab Meat and other sea food dishes. Good quality and clean food with good service. Staff is friendly and helpful.

So keep in mind that you need to make a reservation before hand 8/10 times in order to get a table at the restaurant.

Do try the Crabzilla ❤️it's massive!

Like others said, order the crabs in advance - it's worth it. The garlic chili sauce was a perfect match with this colossal crab. Prawns were tasty but the star of the show is the crab. Worth a trip into Colombo traffic if you love crabs.

They don't have crabs, if you do not order crab in advance, waiter was nice enough to offer a table without crabs. Tables are look nice. But dinner would be nicer.

This place is amazing! We were referred by some local friends and they were right. The butter crab was so amazing and fresh.
Do not miss the baked crab. It has to be ordered 3 hours in advance. Order several, you do not want to share this. I wish I would have pre-ordered two for myself.

This is not a place to miss while visiting Colombo!

Ministry of Crab is a fantastic place to get a glimpse of where SL's dining scene may be headed in the near future. Very tourist-y, great vibes, loud, atmospheric. The good is good, but its incredibly overpriced for what it is.
Either way, its a good splurge dinner.

Had the best crab ever here. True that it is expensive, but definitely worth the price given the quality of the crab. We ordered the jumbo one which is about 1.1 kg in chilli garlic and fresh water prawns in black pepper. The ice tea is amazingly good as well.

Service is quick, as we didn't make a reservation, we have to finish the meal in 1.5hrs to return the table, hopefully we can have more time to enjoy the meal next time.
