We ate here twice in two days and both times we ate more than we had thought we could. The food is amazing. Don't let the exterior of the place fool you - this is the best place to eat in Ella and so far the best for us in Sri Lanka

Incredible food! We had the four veg curry and some banana chips. We arrived just before the queues started at about 4pm. It's very small and not many seats. I believe they also do take out! Highly recommend eating here!!!!

Excellent food - the best rice and curry we had in Sri Lanka, in fact. It came with four generously-portioned vegetable curries - beans, eggplant, potato and a wonderful pumpkin curry. Very reasonably priced for the size as well. It is a tiny space with only a handful of seats, however, so while we were lucky and were seated straight away, you may need to wait.

Good food! And the employees are great! We wanted to get some food at Matey Hut before leaving Ella, because we really liked it there! But it was very crowded at that moment, so we had to move on to get our train. While waiting for the train, an employee from Matey Hut came to us to bring us some food as a gift!

If you come across this place and see a queue of people waiting it’s for a reason. The food is incredible! Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine at local prices. They only have 5 tables but quality trumps quantity and I fully recommend this place!

Best Food in all of Sri Lanka! Absolutely delicious and the service was great. Not to mention reasonably priced. We highly recommend you try this place even if you have to wait a little longer for a seat!

Best in Ella town for lunch.
If you are a vegetarian they are the best.
11-5pm is the time to go there or u might miss a great deal of what Ella has to offer.

Amazing food and service. The host is a great and funny man! Definitely check the restaurant out!

We tried the cooking class the next day. Unfortunately, there was 12 or 13 students in the class, which was way too many for the small kitchen (they were all nice people, but I imagine they felt the same way). I think 6 would have been a better number.

The food the group cooked was tasty, and the teacher was knowledgeable, but not everyone got the opportunity to be hands on. We were a little bit dissatisfied with the class, but the food at the end was good. There was no hand out of the recipes at the end, which was a shame.

Overall, the cooking class was very average. The restaurant is still our favourite in Ella though!

we did the cooking class here which I cannot recommend enough. it starts at 4pm and we cooked for 2 hours and then ate our feast. we made 5 curries and 2 sambals all vegetarian. it's lots of fun and you can take photos of all the recipes. the cost is 2000rs. best to book the day before.

The food is excellent and the waiters/service is lovely. However, it's bug/fly central! Which is strange because none of the other Ella restaurants seem to have that issue. Also, the coffee was a bit mediocre.

Most delicious and don't judge the place by its look. They won't serve dinner so don't miss the lunch and regret later. Their vegetarian dishes are amazing as well

Best food we had in Ella. Delicious rice n curry beautifully presented. Tried also fried pumpkin which was great. And very good minty lime lemonade, tastes like mojito! Nice owner.

I have had some good home cooked meals in Sri Lanka but this place serves up my favourite by far! I have so far visited over 3 days, each time ordering the 4 curries dish (can't bring myself to try something new - it's too good!). The flavours are to die for and it's cooked to order. Friendly husband/wife/family team. DON'T SKIP THIS PLACE!

Best rice and curry I've had. So flavorful, abundant and delicious. The owner and his wife and his aunt are the cooks and they know how to do it well. He is super friendly and we had a nice chat. A must if in Ella.

Delicious fresh food, one of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka. Definitely worth the hype, we especially loved the coconut honey rotti. The owner was extremely friendly as well and prices reasonable. Food is worth 5 stars for sure, but the place itself is unfortunately a little narrow and uncomfortable. Since everything is freshly made in a small kitchen, waiting is unavoidable. This is completely fine, but waiting next to a busy road and construction site can become a little annoying.
