The Kothduwa temple, or Koth Duwa Raja Maha Viharaya, is a Buddhist temple located on Kothduwa Island on the Maduganga riverin southern Sri Lanka. The island is located in Galle District of the Southern Provinceapproximately 35 kilometres north of Galle and 88 kilometres south of Colombo.
A historic temple situated on an isolated island along the Madu River in Balapitiya. You need to rent a boat to reach this place. Make sure to visit the Cinnamon island where you will see the traditional method of making cinnamon.
Very silent place to have a peace of mind for a while. Kothduwa Temple is also popular for its historical value. Worth visiting here & enjoy the panaroma.
The temple has a very historical aspect. Ringing the bell once is considered to bring good fortune.. Can spot native big squirrels of visiting in the morning or afternoon..
Visit the as part of a boat safari on Maduganga, the Temple is an almost perfect example of its kind and very well worth a visit, either out of curiosity or religious conviction. One is expected to make a donation of around SLR 1,000; if you think this will upset you then you are advised to stay away!
