This ancient temple built during king walagamba. Later it was refurbished at kandyan kingdom era. Has spotless buddha statue in old image house. Most pictures were destroyed. Main statue was destroyed by treasure hunters.

Kaballelena Raja Maha Vihara is a temple having a history going far back to Anuradhapura Era, the era of King Valagamba (103 BCE and c. 89–77 BCE). The cave temple is said to have been a hiding place for the fleeing king and later turned into a temple. The cave temple has old paintings belonging to the Kandian era. Its location on a rock gives the visitors splendid views of the surrounding. The stretch of rocks including Kuveni Gala, Yakdessagala, Dolukanda and Nathagane can be seen from this place.
