Ambewela is in the Nuwaraeliya district, 6,000 ft above sea level, crossing the border of the Uva province and the Central province.And then in 1978, National Milk Board introduced their product under a new logo and a brand name Highland – Refreshingly Sri Lankan- re-packing from the factory premises.
1989 production of Butter began…. Today 33,000 kilos of butter is produced at Ambewela.
In year 2003 the packing plant was upgraded to cater to the new demands. This new packing plant at Ambewela produces 30,000 packs of spray dried milk powder per day. The Ambewela plant is really a golden asset of the nation that ensures nutrition to generation to come.

If you're planning to go on a trip, you have to get the permission from milco headquarters. Friendly staff. They give a guide to explain for groups. No photos or videos allowed in there.

One and only Sri Lankan milk powder producing factory is Milco milk powder factory of Ambewela. Milco milk powder factory is at 1km from Ambewela junction. There is a milk shop to buy milk products at in front of Ambewela milk powder factory. Not only milk powder but also some other products produced.
Factory is at 1Km away from Ambewela railway station to pattipola side.
