Was brought here by one of the hoteliers. Or so they say. I needed to get something for my mother for her birthday. They gave me assurance that all their products are certified and will give me a full refund if the sapphire or anything on the article was fake. Got it checked at the relevant authorities and the goods turned out to be legit.
    No complaints on the shop.

A very good Collection of natural gems and minerals. Even their overall workmanship on jewellery is very clean compared to a lot of other shops in Colombo. They issued government certificates with their gems so I have no problem even if I pay a little more, as long as the product is genuine.
I too was brought here in a tuktuk but I guess each one has their own way of marketing their goods.

My wife bought a blue sapphire & white sapphire silver ring yesterday from your shop. I was impressed you were able to resize it and provide a complimentary jewelry polish while she waited! I really appreciate your expertise and the prompt service.
And she also told me that your tea was like nothing she had tasted.
    Keep it up!

A friend had visited SriLanka early last year and recommended Gem Bureau Colombo to me. She told me to call them and they would send a vehicle to the hotel I was staying. To be honest, I wasn’t so sure about the quality of their workmanship or if they could have my necklace made according to the design I had in mind, but I was wrong.
I have been incredibly impressed with the entire process. From design to delivery, every step was smooth and easy.
I had to cut short my vacation due to a family emergency so the item and certificate was delivered earlier than was initially promised!
The team kept me informed each step of the way. Overall, delighted. Oh, and the final necklace itself is beautiful, which is probably the most important thing.

I have brought at least 6 items from Gem Bureau Colombo, prices can't be beat, My family loved every product I purchased. Excellent customer service.
I still recall the 1st time I visited the shop. I was lucky enough to meet one of the directors, Sharfraz, who’s also a gemologist. He showed me what to look for when it came to making an informed purchase of a natural sapphire. Cut. Clarity. Color.
After I selected the stone that suited my taste and my wallet, they took me to the government authority to get the respective certificates. Then they let me choose a ring design that I wanted to have it made in.
The ring was delivered to my hotel along with all the documentation.
It was perfect. Just the way I wanted.

GREAT SERVICE, GREAT PRODUCT AND ON-TIME DELIVERY!

The Sapphire ring is gorgeous with so many beautiful colors. Their customer service was very helpful. I was able to chat one on one with the director of the company as to why the sapphire was so special to this country. They are professionals who know their stuff. They educate the customer, to make a better informed decision on purchasing a coloured gem stone.
It was an unforgettable experience. We had some fun when it came to the price. They were very flexible. And even promised to deliver it to my hotel (which they did) along with relevant certificates

    Thank You!!!!!

Hi it was during the middle of my holidays when i saw the reviews after purchasing the blue sapphires for US$ 2080/-. After seeing the review i had a terrible holiday thinking i was scammed. Then i contacted the gem bureau, but they assured the gems sold were genuine. When i reached Melbourne as the first thing i got the sapphire tested where it was confirmed it is a good stone and got a valuation for Aus $3550/-. Only after that i was happy with the whole Srilankan holiday.

Last week while visiting Colombo and walking on the sea beach near Taj Samudra hotel suddenly a stranger came up to me and said that there is a big gems store nearby gem bureau where currently sales are going and today was the last day. It was only Rs 50 by auto (taxi). As I was little hesitant he said it was government authorized and I would get certificate. He then immediately called an auto to take me to gem bureau and asked to charge rs 50 (in the hindsight I can see that the auto was waiting there). When I came back myself from the gem bureau in a metered taxi, it costed Rs 120. They sold a ruby what they called pegion blood not heat treated original Ruby for US $ 400. I was told that the original price for it before discount was US $1100. I chose a ring and they told me they would deliver it to my hotel room in 3 hours. I left the place after paying the cost. Then at night in my hotel room, I found the Google reviews on gems bureau. 17 other people mentioning the exact same experience as mine, some stranger saying it was the last day of the sale so on. Only then I realized that I have been duped. This is a SCAM. Before leaving Colombo I informed the nearby police station about it.

Other reviews are true. This is scam. One person + one auto driver almost forced us to visit this place . On the way many things were told like , one day sale around 50 % off due to year end , tomorrow all shops will be closed etc. . They are targeting tourists coming out of hotel. Luckly saw reviews and came out immediately.

Terrible scam as said. They bribe people around Colombo to get customers (tourists) entrapped. Asked reception at Hilton were to go they pointed to concierge who's ready to call them to send a car after you (( All stories with a friendly locals telling you about 60% discount and giving you a cheap ride there are also true.
Don't loose your time and money in Gem Bureau, the price you will be told will be at least 2-3 time higher than normal.
In a general line, do not expect prices in Colombo to be cheap and buy things only if you are an expert yourself and check the quality in NGJA.

Every word shared by others is true. Please don't be scammed.
So last week at WTC we run into a fine stranger who starts walking along with us and tells us about this amazing sale at Gem bureau and how it was the last day of the sale and how all his customers from Hilton have been going there. He quickly helps us to hail an auto & says something in Sinhalese obviously telling him to take more money at the Bureau and tells us that auto will charge us only 50 LKR. (You know what we paid 150 LKR for an auto from Colombo Fort Railway station to WTC & Gem Bureau was definitely further away and 50 LKR is just an amazing deal, I don't know why we did not doubt the guy then n there)
Anyways we reach there and then there is this shady entrance that leads to their store on first floor. The guys are selling the gems at a discounted price, and I ended up buying an amethyst and mother of ruby. I should have doubted these guys when any semi precious stone I would pick and he would give me the same price of 200 dollars. I didn't argue much and I bought both at the price they asked.
My friend on the other hand went ahead and bought 2 rings onec of which is so called sapphire and was given a discounted price of 850 dollars for both. But unlike me she didn't want to settle for the price they gave and went on negotiating and finally struck a deal for herself at 550 dollars. ( Isn't it amazing that 300 dollars were just reduced on an already discounted gems, I never bought real jewellery with such extra ordinary discounts). This scenario did ring a bell that is it really possible for true gems to have such extra ordinary discounts but I guess I was too tired to investigate then.
Only when I returned from my trip from Srilanka did I get time to think about the 1000 dollars purchase we made from here and that's when I started searching more about gems as well as searched about Gem Bureau ( too sad cause we had net and we could have done the same before our purchase).
Well my gems don't even have a certificate and even though my friend's gems do, I don't have much hope about them being authentic ( don't forget the 300 dollars instant discount on already discounted gems).
Well if Gem Bureau is thinking we are tourists who won't be back, they are mistaken. After proper verifications we will take up the case with police and raise appropriate fraudulent charges as we have the invoices.
But for all the other felow tourists/travellers, please don't be scammed. The network starts from WTC and ends at their store. Just do not make any purchase of gems if firstly you have no knowledge at all of gems and secondly if you are not purchasing from a government authorised gem store which can offer you credibility of purchase.

Me and my girlfriend bought a beautiful sapphire ring in this shop. We came 10 minutes before closing and there were 10 guys standing around us and watching us while we shopped and bargained. They pressured us, that they are closing and they are there only because of us, so we have to be quick (10 guys because of us? nice customer service!).The original price was 450€, we negotiated it to 300€. After couple of days, my girlfriend started to google the quality of sapphires and some information about the shop. It turned out to be a scam shop and we weren´t the first ones to be scammed. We also googled that there are official shops in the WTC governed by the government. They told us there, that the ring is worth maximum of 50€. The problem was, that it is written on the receipt, that they do not refund their products. So we went to the police with an excuse, that we don´t have any money and if they could help us get some money back for the ring. They were very nice and offered their help. The owner of the shop seemed very nervous, when we entered his office with a police officer. When he realized, that there is not a big problem, that we just want to return the ring, he started to be offensive. He offered us 50€ and that we can keep the ring!!?? We told him, that we need a minimum of 200€ to get out of the country. After a while and some excuses, he agreed and he made us a "generous" offer: he would keep the ring for 2 weeks and we could send him the money and he would send us the ring. Another scam? Probably. We also had to write a letter about his generosity and sign it. After a while we were leaving very happy, that we lost "only" 100€ on this bargain.

This place is a horrible scam. In January we bought a "blue sapphire" ring for 300€ (their original price was 500€). Later we took it to the certified jeweller, which stated that half of the stones weren't even sapphires, and the rest were of very poor qualitythey said the ring doesn't cost more than 100€.
So we went to the police station and came back to their shop with a plausible story about how we lost all our money and would like to return the ring in exchange for 200€. After a lot of talking we finally did it and eventually lost just a 100€.
Without the police they wouldn't even talk to us about taking back the ring, that was absolutely obvious.
PLEASE, if you want to but gems in Sri Lanka, go to a state certified shop.
Don't believe anything that they say in Gem Bureau/Gem Museum, they're just a bunch of petty criminals.

This is a scam shop. It is a three man scam. A guy tells you that there is a 40% sale that is going on in the shop and it will close the same day. A three wheeler is standing by to take you there for a cheap fare. I bought a amethyst stone at $200(after 40%). Laksala (which is an expensive shop by itself) had a bigger stone for $150. BEWARE DO NOT BUY!!
