  One of the largest and most prestigious government sector faculties of medicine in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1962 as the second medical school in the country. Has 16 clinical, preclinical and paraclinical departments and several units and centres. Provides medical education to about 1000 undergraduates and clinical training is provided by nearby Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya, Teaching Hospital, Kandy and other peripheral hospitals in Gampola, Nawalapitiya, Mawanella and Kegalle.
