We wanted to love it. Each year we backpack through India and/or various countries. We typically stay at hostels or moderately priced hotels, with one splurge.
Ella Jungle Resort was that splurge at $275cad.
The setting was a little too remote, accessible only by truck & cable car. We were unaware there was a $1500 ruppee charge for additional trips out of the hotel grounds.
The food was not good.
There was a large mouse in our room, that ate a hole through my friends luggage. They offered us a much smaller room with out door bathroom, no fan, as an alternative. We stayed in our room with 5 traps. The rodent was caught, and despite letting staff know, we still had to remove the trap ourselves.
There is no phone to contact front desk, so if you need anything, you have to go and find staff.
There is really not much to do here, so if you are looking for a very quiet breakits perfect.
Our stay certainly did not meet our expectations for the price.

The service here is excellent. The camp site is also good. However, with the price they charge a bit too high. The safari only see one time is enough. the second time a bit boring

Where to begin to describe this unique place? Maybe just at the beginning when you arrive. A Jeep takes you into the woods and by cable car you will get to the resort. The whole resort is well maintained and the staff is very helpful. Just be patient on their English. This place is perfect to relax and enjoy Sri Lanka's nature. You are in the middle of nowhere. Don't expect WiFi in your room or a phone to order room service. Do expect nature at his best with a natural pool, waterfall, rice fields, beautiful butterflies and birds. The food is good and divers (vegetarian and no alcohol but during lunch you can order a meaty pizza) and they offer a lot of free activities. This place deserves to be discovered, but only by those who can appreciate it.

Beautiful resort with breathtaking views. It's completely vegetarian, we had a mostly traditional Sri Lankan dinner and a western style breakfast. There were peacocks and monkeys everywhere, they have a farm with cows and other animals as well. The hike to the natural pool is amazing and zip lining is included. There is no alcohol on site so bring your own if you want it. Wonderful staff and large clean rooms (much cleaner than most in the area). They have hot water but it's solar powered so I couldn't get any in the morning. Overall an amazing spot to take in, I would definitely stay there again.

An amazing in-jungle experience. Perfect if you want to explore the surrounding area, with beautiful waterfalls layered with ponds of wildlife.

The only thing I'd improve is more open access to drinks.

Best holiday for a while This place has a lot to give you from adventure to inner peace. As their motto says its easy to check in but impossible to check out.. Love the staff who were supportive and friendly. Looking forward to the day I can go back

One of the Worst customer service i hv ever witnessed..Really hate itNot worthy fr The price tag that hanging up in high..Anyway the guide is a great man..He showed us the beauty of the area..And He helped us to enjoy the day but apart frm that Food wise,Customer Care wise i really hate this placeAnd clearly i can say they dun maintained it often and cuz of that real beauty is hide inside that commune..the paradise that they showed up with snaps rnt real..trust meFar away from anything - pictures completely different to reality.😒

Its a heaven inside the forest.And the hospitality shown towards us was so great.All of the staff working there were multi working and tried their best to keep our smiles retained and they did succeed.Overall our stay was awesome and the treks were breathtaking.

Wish we could have stayed more than 1 night. After the slow bumpy 15 minute ride down the hill in the back of a ute you come to the cable car that takes you the final 5 minutes down to the resort. Wow! Such a beautiful & tranquil place. They grow a lot of there own food on site, including rice. All the bungalows face the river. All the meals are buffet & the dinner was outside. The dinner tables surrounding a bon fire with traditional music playing. We didn't have time to explore the entire resort but the zipline was fun & the 25 min medium grade walk/climb to the waterfall/swimming hole was well worth it. Go there is great.

The location of this place is absolutely fabulous. It's sad that the management won't take good care of the place. It's very strange that an expensive resort has toilet sharing facilities, no hot water and no latches on doors.Thankfully, the ground staff were sweet enough to give us hot water, as the resort was empty at the time. (off season) What's worse, you can't take your car into the resort because of the jungle road and cable car, and then they charge you 1500/- for every trip, every day, if you want to get out into Ella town. The resort is very eco friendly, but no Shampoo, poor lighting inside the rooms and rats chewing on your stuff, is not my idea of fun.
