We used these guys for taxi van transport to Mirissa. 4000 rupees was agreed in Hiriketiya, a fare rate and not cheap for A1 hour trip. On arrival he said, " this is Mirissa beach which is 4500" Like you honestly thought a bunch of tourists were wanting to go to Mirissa main bus stand. Sometimes I just get so fed up with people who try to squeeze every last penny out of you, can you not just stick to the agreement.
Dots Bay House is a wonderful place to stay for some days or weeks. Very nice and clean rooms. The food is very delicious, the guys are too kind and the price is also fine. You can also do surf lessons or you go on a ride to see turtles or whales. The bay is beautiful, clean and the perfect place for hot days.
Food is over priced and has no flavour, plenty of better food places in the area.
Been here only in the restaurant over NY. Ordered grilled calamari - 4 (four!) lean rings with a spoon of rice. I don't know maybe their cook was on a sick leave this day. Meanwhile the ambience is nice, staff speaks well english. On 31 there was a concert with a cool live band. So I put 5 for the ambience and 1 for the food which is anyway is too expensive according the menu.
Didn't stay at the accommodation but ate here almost every night we were at Hiriketiya. The food is great and the place has a real friendly vibe. Yoga in the mornings with Matilda was a treat and the owner made every effort to make us feel welcome when we were there. Tip: try the brownie!
Loved staying here. Every morning I looked forward to having breakfast in papasan chairs, defo best breakfast I had in Sri Lanka. Great music, awesome Yoga with Bella & very helpful & friendly staff. Peaceful location & right on Hiriketiya beach. Great vibes. Hope to be back soon.
Didn't even get a chance to order here. We walked in and were the only ones seated, there was 3 or 4 staff members sitting around on there phones and didn't even acknowledge us. I walked around a bit trying to get there attention but it seemed like they were purposely not looking up at us, ended up leaving and going elsewhere.. not sure why this happened, might try and come back in a few days as we've heard good things but it's unlikely.
Chilled spot with good music, tasty food and cool beers.
Stopped by for lunch, and had a very disappointing experience, after hearing good things. Basically it's a little shack next to an inlet which is more like a stagnant, bad smelling pond. The food was unacceptable, I feel that no matter how much you're spending - and this place is not that inexpensive either - there are basic things you have the right to expect from your food, one being that it is not off. Ordered the pumpkin burger, and the "fresh homemade" bun was stale and had mould in it. The filling was very minimal and the "mushroom sauce" was mayonnaise. Also had the 3 vegetable curries with rice. One "curry" was just a bowl of chopped pepper and onion. The rice literally smelt and tasted(?) like sewage, no doubt in my mind that if we had eaten it we would be sick today. We handed it back saying it was obviously off, they gave us a 150lkr discount. The sambol contained rancid coconut oil and was inedible. The dahl was not very warm and was glued together, it seemed as though it had been microwaved. We asked how long the rice and curry had been sitting around, they said 2 hours. I'm thinking more like since the day before. The place is infested with flies, we could practically not eat our food because we needed our hands to swat the hordes away from our food and skin. Thinking this has something to do with the gross water next to the cafe. Definitely won't be back, I value my health.
We have noticed a practice by the owner of Dot's Bay House that is unacceptable and we feel worthy of a public review and admonishment. For the past 2 months he digs a trough running from the beach end of the laguna next to his property, to the ocean to drain the sewage and backwater directly into this pristine bay and surfer/swimmer paradise. He has ignored requests to stop this practice by those concerned. When he drains the laguna, surfers and swimmers are sick afterward. This is environmentally unsafe and is a health hazard to all, both human and marine life. We witnessed this practice precisely today. You cannot swim in the bay on the days he does this, which is frequent. We want to publicly "out" this and recommend boycotting both the house and the restaurant until he stops this practice.
Great spot, great rooms, great people. This place is paradise on earth!
