A lovely place in arugam bay. Have a nice beach and the rock is nice place to look around the area. Need to walk around 10min to rock from the car park.

Crocodile rock is a place of wilderness untouched by the man. Though this is place is not familiar among nature lovers, this place is probably the best spot in Sri Lanka to observe large crocodiles. This extraordinary place is located just few miles away from the paradise of crocs, the Panama tank.
Ridiculously large number of crocodiles gather in this shady place accompanied by a moderately large canal originating from the Panama tank. Both Mugger and Salt-water crocodiles share this unique resting place peacefully. This makes the Crocodile rock an ideal research center to study both crocodile species and to contrast and compare their behavioral patterns and contrasting appearance. Furthermore this an spectacular location to study behavioral patterns, social interactions as well as the crocodile etiquette related crocodile hierarchy. During day time mostly small crocs gather in this ideal resting spot. However with the falling of the dusk colossal crocodiles slither in to this spot under the darkness.
Usually larger crocodiles measuring at least 4m can be observed in the dusk and evening. During my visit to Crocodile rock, I saw one giant croc hiding under the vegetation with just exposing its large tail which was as long as a medium sized crocodile. According to my brief calculation that giant should be measuring at least 5 m!
In this place we get dangerously close to giant crocodiles. In my experience I was just few yards away from some bigger crocodiles. As crocodiles are masters of stealth, we don't until they are just in front of us after getting too much closer to crocodiles. Therefore this place is extremely dangerous. So always remember to explore this beautifully dangerous place with a well experienced guide or a villager. For betterment don't bring children who are not conscious enough about the danger they are stepping in.
Panama is the one of the few places in Sri Lanka where huge crocodiles live peacefully. As a responsible local guide I beg you not to spoil this harmony among crocs and villagers by polluting and exploiting wilderness of the Crocodile rock. Also don't forget that this is place also an ideal place to watch birds like white-bellied sea eagle, kingfishers so on and so on.

In this place you get a dangerously closer encounter with wild crocodiles..

One of the most beautiful place in east coast. Since its a less known place its stays unpolluted. Nice surrounding. You get a great view of sea.

Отличные пейзажи открываются с этой скалы. Виды шикарные в любую сторону. По слухам можно увидеть слонов в рисовых полях, но это на их слоновье настроение.

A great mellow rock which looks like a sleeping crocodile. Not to be confused with nearby Elephant rock (which. Would you believe looks just like an elephant).
Great spot to watch the sun set over the Gala East Park. And see elephants below
