Very chilled out environment. Good menu. The staff was a bit rude at the start and did not give us a table but afterwards they were really good and courteous. Sri Lankan cuisine was well served. Good options for drinks as well. The crowd and the atmosphere are the best.
Great atmosphere. If you're looking for Westernized food alongside some really good drinks this is exactly the place. The wait took about 20 mins for the food to get to us on a full house day. The courtesy was nice alongside some classy service. Didn't have any issues at all. Chill.
An excellent restaurant with a cool vibe, visited by almost every Western tourist in Ella. Lots of seating. Extensive menu for both food and drink. A cozy atmosphere aided by the exposed wood beams and walls. The upstairs is a large lounge area with full bar and lots of bean-bag chairs scattered about. The lounge area is packed late afternoons and well into the evening. Food portions were excellent. I had the deviled chicken and my wife a Hawaiian pizza (ham and pineapple). Both were very good. Lots of local beer in bottles. A great place to meet with friends and fellow back-packers. Enjoy!
Great place for western food and cocktails! The staff and the service were exceptional and all of our food and drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time. Yes the prices are high and yes it is touristy, but this is in a town that has been exclusively built for tourists. The architecture is exquisite, especially on the 3rd floor. Highly recommend if you would like some western food or a cocktail on your trip.
Go upstairs (last floor)!! Really good atmosphere, music, service and fast central bar. Cocktails were very good and alcoholic ;), try Pina Colada and Black Gin Tonic!
You have to take your shoes off. Everybody does and that’s awesome and relaxing. If you don’t believe it, try it!
Service was amazing, servers very friendly, great ambience. The pizza was amazing as were the drinks. Prices were similar to other establishment in the area. Very busy, hard to get a table without a wait. But well worth it. The management is doing a great job!
The chill cafe lives up to its name and is a great place to relax and have some food and beverages. The bar area upstairs is particularly brilliant. The food selection is varied and delicious. The staff are wonderful.
Great food and atmosphere. The restaurant was packed for the whole duration of our visit.
The food was very good even though the prices were on the higher, tourist, price. Expect to dish out 1000 rupees per main meal.
The waiters were friendly and quite quick despite the mass of people present at the time.
Overall a nice place to visit during your stay in Ella.
Good food and beverages. Their signature dish with 10 types of curry is amazing! If you like curry, don't miss that.
Prices are fair, easy to find. Menu's variety pleases different tastes (burger, pizzas, rice & curry, pasta and few others international choices).
If at first floor, close to the kitchen, avoid sitting at the back once there is a small river stream that exhales bad odours.
Service is very good and friendly waiters.
Don't miss
The food and the atmosphere was great but unfortunately a certain member of staff was incredibly rude. I asked a very simple question and he ignored me so blatantly. He almost pretended I wasn’t there which was not a nice feeling it what seems to be a beautiful place. I am usually 1 to sing praises on the reviews but the service today was not good at all. The worst treatment I feel I have ever received. Such a shame. He was working on the bar top floor with a white hat. Avoid this guy as it will ruin your night!
It's low season in Ella but you can't tell by the amount of backpackers in Cafe Chill. Every night the rooftop bar and restaurant below are full with fellow travellers. The rooftop bar is a cozy place with bean bags you can sit in and have a cold beer or cocktail. The perfect place to relax after climbing Ella rock or little Adam's peak. Food in the restaurant is delicious, from pizza's, hamburgers to Sri Lankan curries. Prices are more or less the same as in surrounding restaurants but you can't beat the athmosphere of the Chill bar.
One of the most famous and recommended restaurant in Ella Town. All the time busy and full, having many variety of food. Clients coming there very happy. Good food at good price.
If you've been to the foreigner-targeted restaurants in places like Bangkok and Phuket, then you'll feel right at home here. But it's really a quite nice place to have a bite and a drink. We had the pizza, which was surprisingly good! So was the peanut butter-infused milkshake.
Great place to eat. Has its own vibe going own, doesn't seem to be a same old copy like a lot of other Sri Lankan restaurants we've been to so far. The music is good. The place is packed, but the waiters are great and they still find time to have a yarn and a joke. The food was great, we went there two nights in a row. Greek grilled fish dish was epic. There is a awesome sit down on the ground type of set up in the third floor but it was all booked out both the times we went for dinner.
A place you MUST go for some good dinner, beer or even coffee. The staff is extremely friendly. Place is filled with foreigners but locals are also warmly welcomed. Getting a seat in the top floor is quite difficult coz once someone sit there, there's no getting up until the restaurant closes. However, it's an extremely wonderful atmosphere to chill here 😍
I was really disappointed with this place. I had the pasta, waited to long for it and was charged too much for what I would say was poor quality. I went with three other people and out of all four of us not one if us had a meal with talking about. I don't really know what I was expecting with pasta but I've had better instant pasta. I guess I was lured in by the decor but don't let it fool you like it did with me
Great place to chill (hence the name). We had to wait 5h for our night train the last day, and could just sit on the bean bags on the top floor. Pushpa (one of the staff) took really good care of us. Food is phenomenal (try the lampreis!). Highly recommended place.
Loved this place! Filled with tourists and backpackers (like most places in Ella) but very friendly staff and tasty food and drinks. A little bit pricey though, especially with their 10% service charge! The top floor with bean bags is particularly nice. It's also a nice place for reading and hanging out. There is WiFi!
We came here twice, once for drinks and secondly for dinner. The atmosphere is lovely, in the bar upstairs there are candles and beanbags everywhere. The staff are really friendly and relaxed. I also love the undulating roof.
We went for dinner the day after and had the lamprais Of 7 curries and rice slow cooked in a banana leaf. It was so tasty even if we didn't know what we were eating!
