I had to wait for more than one hour to get a parcel I received from hacktoberfest. Everything is done manually. Not a single computer on sight. People are friendly. But the process is outdated.

Terrible service to customers.Most of the Higher-ups doesn’t know the Standard regulations And procedures to get some work done fast.Instead they keep the people waiting and Routing through their offices

Service is terrible!!! I didn't read the memo that from 12.30 to 1.00 during lunch hours you shouldn't bother visiting the place as it's a dead zone. 12.30 hits and all of then run off for lunch. Forget 12.30, when it's close to 12.30 they slow down and try not to accept customers. I went during the festive times so I assumed most might have been on leave but that wasn't the case. Once lunch was done, everyone was there. It must have been the annual cleaning because while we waited these cleaning guys started trying to clean up the fans and all, and dust was going all over the place. It was coming on to us, and they didn't even bother to open the windows and it seemed that during this lunch break the fact that we were there or being affected by the dust was invisible to them. Must have been the lunch time syndrome! When it gets close to lunch being over you see them one by one walking up to their desk, scratching their heads and slowly settling but still not noticing us around. Then everyone starts queuing up. They could at least keep a few while the rest have lunch? Terrible service and no bother to any of the customers around.

The opening time states 1pm for weekdays, however no one is working between 1 & 2pm. You are made to wait, no one communicates with you, in singhalese or English, and your parcels sit on a desk in front of you for you to look at for an hour before anyone actually does anything. Staff stroll in and out of the room eating snacks, conversing, with only one guy pretending to work going back and forth to his empty desk, and to the parcels. It's ridiculous! The process is so simple, the problem is no one wants to take charge and do the work.

Good place..took them 50minutes to clear my parcel ,the place doesnot seem to be properly arranged and you may have to ask a lot of directions and information..

I am in the unfortunate situation of having to deal with the foreign branch of this place after a package I sent internationally by tracked post went missing due to the tracking number not working. The person who I sent the package to waited a whole month and got their money back through PayPal.

After waiting like a month (because I was told to wait a while due to a delay) I was told to fill out a complaint form which I did. After waiting for another month and contacting the post office I was told I had to send the address again because "it wasn't clear enough" for the staff handling the complaint, even though it was very short and the post office staff read it before they took the form.

I wait another month and contacted foreign branch directly and I was told it had arrived at the other country (even though the tracking number provided still don't work) and I requested evidence for it's arrival so I can actually use it to get my package or money back.

I wait another 20 days and contact the foreign branch and the same woman I spoke to 20 days ago basically started telling me the exact same thing. Then when I pointed out this and that I requested this 20 days ago she tried to turn it around on me by talking about the address not being clear and hung up on me. The next day call back and talk to another guy working there and he tells me my request for evidence of delivery was sent 2 days ago! Even though I asked over 20 days ago. When I asked exactly how long I have to wait for a response he asks the woman that hung up on me in the background and she says another 20 days!

This is the first time I used this country's joke of a postal service.
And this will definitely be the last time.

The only pro about this place is the friendly staff.
Pretty much everything else is a con
The place cleanliness.. speed of service.
I got directed all over the building to retrieve a simple package. Make sure you come early to get the work done Caz you will have to stay here for hours. :) (regarding foreign item clearance)

If you want an experience of what the 1950's were like, go to the Foreign Parcel office here.

Stuck in a time warp, the very many under employed staff live out their daily existence of not doing very much, in between which they sign pieces of paper and tell you to go to another desk to get another signature before coming back again, before waiting an hour or so, or whatever the designated period is, before money is demanded.

Fast, efficient, modern; these are words that have never been used to describe this office.

To me is a clear cut explanation why so many foreign companies completely refuse to ship anything to Sri Lanka, let alone anything of value.

My first experience with this office, now my last

I would hope that the Yahapalanaya government would do something, but as a colleague said, that would reduce the opportunities for corruption, and they would just go on strike.

As for the people giving this 5 stars, any guesses how many of them are post office staff? No government service in SL is worth 2 stars, let alone 4.6 rating.
