Situated in a calm environment. U have to enter through woods! The temple hosted on a rock with vast are. Probably the highest point of area. The history runs to the King Saddhatissa era.

A wonderful temple in an amazing landscapes. Views around are amazingly beautiful. The sculptures are beautiful and very different. The nature around is a gem, you are very likely to meet elephant on your way to this beautiful, historical and most valuable temple.

Great place in top of a huge rock. Better to go in morning or evening.. morning is better because road will be full with wild elephants in the evenings.. Bit away from Ampara town & need a vehicle to go there.. Big car park is available & festivals are on Poson poya days.. You can see some statuses most likely to Polonnaruwa Gal Wiharaya.. also you can see big area of Ampara town from the top. Great place to visit, but be careful from elephants & Sun.

Buddangala Raja maha viharaya located in Ampara. When you arriving viharaya you will comea cross forest you can see wild elephant. Very nice place you can see entire estern part oh the country from here. Very calm place if you want to relax your mind that place definitly help you.. love that place. Buddhangala Monastery is located not far away from Ampara town and the road condition is good due to recent Development process.Buddhanga temple is build on a cascading rocks and a lake was built to store water for monastery monks. Once you climb to the most highest rock, you can get a good view of the surrounding.Please note that there may be wild elephant movements close by so avoid travelling at night time.

Very beautiful place to visit. But you have to go early abouth 8 -9am otherwise you may not able to walk on the rocks it is too hot.
After 6 pm ekephants are crossing the road so it is not safe after that

The Buddhangala Monastery lies deep in the jungles about 7 kilometers off Ampara. The Monastery covers 1280 acres covering 5 rocks where the remains of the ancient monastery can be seen.
This area belonged to the Digamadulla Kingdom which was started by Prince Dighayu in the 4th century BC. All though the beginning of this monastery is not documented, Ven Ellawala Medhananda Thero states that the history of is monastery is as old as the Digamadulla Kingdom.
Lost in the history, covered by thick jungle infested with wild animals, exposed to the elements for over thousands of years, this monastery was brought back to life in 1964 by a young brave bikku called Kalutara Dhammananda, (incumbent high priest today) who traveled through the thick jungles and cleared the area with the assistance of Buddhists in the area.

situated on a rock outcrop and on one rock boulder are the remains of a Dagoba and a structure with brickbats. On the rock surface the remains of three structures are visible. On the eastern slope of the rock, evidence of a retaining wall made of rubble, two plain guard stones, a balustrade stone and on the west a few rock caves with drip-ledges are found.
