Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site, and the site of several religious monuments and abandoned structures.

This is a museum maintained by the Department of Archaeology. The exhibition is a small one. The most important display in this museum is the 8th century drawings belong to an unknown stupa. It is very beautiful.
This museum is not crowded and the staff is very friendly.

Awful - and a total waste of time. One of the "guards" will try to latch on to you and show you around a bunch of dark rooms with poorly labeled objects -- and then demand a "ticket." Unreal!

Collection is not vast but they have more significant artifacts such as inner chamber of a Sthupa with beautiful frescos and some ancient surgical equipments
