Can hike in one day or can camp up there.. very scenic views. Remember to take plenty of water. Last place to collect water is about 1km before the top
Great getaway and a serious hike, triller, danger all in one
Best place for hiking, camping, mountain biking, bird watching.
Best place for hikers. This is the 1st hike of most of hikers. It’s neither easy nor hard though. But when it gets wet it’s so slippery. So be aware of that. It takes 2 or 3 hours to reach the top. You can climb down with another way too. It is a way through bushes.
This is a camp site also. If you wish to do so, go for it. It’s better to find a person who has climbed once to ask for advices. Be safe ✌️
Awesome Hike destination but in the verge of being polluted :(
Top view is serene. A bit hard of a climb for starter hikers, but its worth the climb. Got some challenging rock climbing which makes the hike worthy.
Nice hiking experience, final phase of the rock is little adventurous. Better to bring sufficient water. 3 to 4 hours journey to rock. There are some good 360 viewpoints.
Excellent place with amazing view. If u sart the hike from railway station, it's quite long. Motorcycle can be come most of the way and have stop base of the rock and start hike.
Somewhat difficult way with leechers.
Lion's mouth should climb with very carefully.
Other side of the the rock, there is a rope to climb down and continue foot path to Temple on other end of the mountain.
Its was a lot of.. A pretty hard hiking but hang on! u will feel it good after u get to the top There is a good place for camping ⛺ And we started form Ehala Kotte rain sataion But starting from the other side is fun but its a hard one. But u can get through it with good spirit. 😉
Great rock to hike. Very beautiful sceneries all around. You should carry enough water as usual in hikings.
Best views up on the mountain top :)
Simply Love it, even if it was much harder to climb.
One of the best campgrounds in Sri Lanka! Good Hike!
This is an amazing place to do a trek and you need to be fit. I've done this mountain twice one from the Beaten path via Pilimathalawa->Pottapitiya in Kandy and the other via the Ihalakotte railway station on the Colombo-Kandy main line. The Pottapitiya is a beaten path and is quite easy and you do not have to be crazy fit to do this. But the view at the top is really awesome. A night on the top is lovely if you want to see a sunset or sunrise, but be aware of wild boar, they are really dangerous and they are all over in the night. The other route from Ihalakotte railway station has a kind of path, but our group decided to take an off road route and it is crazy. With climbing just hanging by two fingers, to scaling crumbling rock to the use of anchored ropes, and orienteering through lush green patches of forests. But for this you must be fit and very brave.
When you reach the top there is a rock, which the mountain is named after "alagalla" or "the yam rock". There is only one direction you can get on top of that, and if you try the other direction be aware if you slip there is a 40m drop, like we nearly found out the hard way.
You will also need to carry all your rations and water. There are some water spouts but don't rely on them. Also don't try this solo cause this is not a frequented mountain. Also try it during the dry season cause rain makes the trek very risky and slippery.
Beautiful location. Morning sun rise best natural beauty and highly recommended for Hikers and team work training. One of the best mountain peak in Sri lanka. unforgettable experience
There are two ways..the route that starts from poththapitiya is little bit challenging and filled with adventure..be careful when you try to get to the top of the rock..use the ropes to climb up.
From Poththapitiya town It is a great hike up to the peak. An avarage hike at the start and the final steps of the peak is little bit hard. At the top easily you can see the ihalakotte raiway track under the mountain and also some several towns such as Kadugannawa Rambukkana Mawanella etc.. In rainy seasons need to be careful from the leaches.
That was an awesome hike through out the day. It was a great place situated on the way to hatharaliyaddha. I just joined with 2 more qnd reached there out in the morning and made my day the best with it's natural beauty and the environment it located. Suggest for hikers for camping and enjoying the nature.
Alagalle alos know as Potato Mountain Range is one of scenic mountain in Sri Lanka and which has a freaking beautiful views once you are in peak point.
It takes around 2hrs to hike to the peak point in Alagalle and better to start hike as early as possible. The route : Colombo -> Pilimathalawa -> Pottapitiya -> Alagalle Tea Factory -> Alagalle rock. When you do hike, make sure to carry water with you and there is no water top of the mountain. Therefor, camping is bit hard due to no water.
2nd highest mountain peak in Sri Lanka.
Best to start hiking early in the morning before animals hide in the forest.
After long long time i'm ready to enjoy real nature.
Morning view was fabulous
Great place for oneday hike
Absolutly loved the place. Went there and camped on the peak with friends.
Keep safety in mind if you climb to the summit through lion's mouth. Its easier to use ropes to climb from tge other side.
Beautiful place , nice view , better for camping.
