So me and my partner decide to do our first hike. Woke up 'early' but didn't leave till around half 12. Got to our destination (Gros Piton) around 2.30pm and they said last tour was at 2pm. Oh no. As we were driving off a tour guide, unregistered by the looks of him, i.e not in the same uniform as the others, offered to guide us up the smaller shorter Pitit Piton. The name was very deceitful, tour took us 5 hours (supposed to be 3) and my partner almost died of dehydration - he threw up on the way down. Several times you could have easily slipped, loss your grip and certainly died. Probably illegal in several countries especially with there being no safety gear. We both agreed to it being one of the hardest things we have ever done. Views were nice but not sure if they were worth risking our lives. Gros piton supposedly a steady climb around while this was a constant uphill struggle and it doesn't get any easier as you get to the top. There's around 30 ropes which are hanging loosely which you have to hang on to dear life to. Terrifying, and to top it off we came down in pitch black darkness it was just as hard as going up as our legs were like jelly. Police were called as locals heard cries and saw out flashlights from our phone. Whole body hurt next morning and my partner is still recovering from the trauma. No Regrats.
Breath taking!
