One of the top universities in Lebanon. The main campus in Koura is a very large campus with modern building and lot of facilities surrounded by nature. The view is splendid between the sea and mountains.

This is the most honest review for the University of Balamand an international student could ask for. This review is as if you are talking to a local immediately. Pointing both the pros and cons of this university and how does it compare to other universities. Every perspective student SHOULD read this.
The location
Balamand is located in a very nice place where it is away from the main city Tripoli ( you need $2 van transport to get from/to the city. TAXIS would share much more.) It is located away from smaller cities, not so far though, just that you need some sort of transportation to get around. After meeting new people, they will offer you a lift, but it could be a while before.
Accommodation
The dorms of the university are terrible. No one ever recommends them. Very hot and not so clean. Yet there are plenty of dorms away from the university that have shuttle service with suitable times to move you back and forth. I cannot recommend any; it depends on your budget and the availability.
Food
The cafeteria at the university is just average. Average food and okay prices, just nothing amazing. It is clean though. However there are several restaurants next to the university that offer a wider variety (yet most of them aren't so clean but you would manage to find one or two restaurants that you'd like and stick to them.)
Fees
Balamand is not among the cheap universities of Lebanon. In fact, it compares to the most expensive ones in the Arab region ( and it is considered cheaper than those.) You need to know that every year the fees increase by average of $10~15 /credit, without explicitly announcing them. Yet it is better than LAU (Lebanese American University) and AUB (American University of Beirut) which almost charge %150 than Balamand. Note that AUB and LAU have a basis where they charge maximum of 12 credits ( everything above that is free.) Balamand doesn't have that. Also note that other universities charge for the type of course you are taking, not your major (but not at Balamand.)
Tuition
Good when compared to other universities. They use the style of schools in education, where classes have less than 20 students. You can either look at it as an advantage or disadvantage. But for someone looking for a college life (and who isn't?), you are not going to find that at Balamand. Lecturers even do not allow phones/leaving the class without a permission ( most of them.) Attendance is not graded, however you are only allowed to miss 5 lectures for each 3-credits course. Most old classes do not have a/cs which could be a real problem in the months close to the summer (early Fall/late Spring/Summer.)
Friends
In general people at Balamand are friendly. They'd like to meet new people, and they do like to party ( a large number of them.)
Ethnicity & Religions
Here is where Balamand fails. They do pretend to respect all religions, and they do it well. But if you are from different religion ( not Christian Orthodox), you would find a difference in the way they treat you (depends on your religion.) There are many different religions at the university ( A big part of the students are Muslims.) However, they reserve scholarships, financial aids, merits, grants, fellowships, prestigious positions, and basically every important opportunity for a Christian Orthodox. If they couldn't find someone to fit their needs, they'd give you a temporary spot until they do. There is a monastery on the campus, as well as a prayer room for Muslims. The monastery is located near the high school of Balamand. The prayer room is located in front of the greenfield in a very isolated place ( and very small.)
Computer labs
Computer labs really fall behind in terms of performance. Wifi internet is occasionally acceptable, yet it depends on what type of work you are doing. Some website will not load, while others could take a very long time to do so. The wifi is available across the campus, yet every time you disconnect from an access point, you need to manually login from the browser.
