One of Lebanon’s oldest and most visited tourist attractions. A holy place visited by all people from all religions and regions. The Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon is a Marian shrine and a pilgrimage site in Kesrouan area
This place is holly, very common for tourists. Suitable for all ages and all people around the world, its a glimpse of lebanon. Everyone should go participate in the mass, and then enjoy the exceptional view from above. Beside it there is a restaurant, kids playground and teleferique.
I love both Brutalist architecture and places of worship and have, on my travels, often sought out both. This location delivers the goods for both categories in a very surprising way. Perched at the top of a mountain overlooking the Jounieh Gulf, north of Beirut, the spot can be reached by a cable car from Harissa far, far below. If the car is not running or driving is your thing - this is after all Lebanon - then you can drive up the winding road to the summit.
The statue of Our Lady and the church are located in a shady and slightly kitsch - but surprisingly nice - garden. The statue is a must see, and a spiral stair up its plinth is worth it for the extra elevation it offers. For me, though, the star of this particular show is the church / basilica. We were fortunate enough to be allowed in when a visiting priest from Italy (complete with man bag and fashionable stubble) was admitted by one of the guardian nuns; we just stepped up and joined the party. After seeing the lower chapel we were permitted, with smiling encouragement, to ascend to the basilica via the tiny spiral stairway used by the priest and his gang.
What a privilege! Once you have straightened your clothes in the surprisingly large mirror at the top of the stairs and then step out alongside the alter you find yourself at the focal point of both the congregation but also the entire structure, which is a beautiful descending clam shell made from immense pre-cast concrete segments. The architect rightly did nothing to hide the visible evidence of this building’s strong and brutal elegance, this is true “brute baton” construction. Finally, The two halves of the roof curve together like the hands of someone in prayer, delivering a vaulted bit somehow intimate space that works at a very sophisticated level of allegory.
A must-visit.

Virgin Mary of Lebanon
Lovely church for praying and meditation.
Nice view
Great destination a must see in Beirut
I loved this place
Amazing View you will never forget!
The holy shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa is located on top of a hill overseeing the entire coastline with an unobstructed view of the bay of jounieh. The holy shrine topped by a massive statue of the Virgin Marie is considered to be one of the holiest christian places in lebanon and the region. Recent additions over several years to the old shrine include the massive Cathedral which houses also multifunctional premises for conferences, as well as for hosting travelers. A holy iconography museum can also be visited on the premises and houses an impressive collection.
People can drive up the shrine or use the cable cars coming from jounieh to the restaurant located at the foot of the visiting area.
Absolutely gorgeous destination with a breathtaking view of the entire country below. Highly recommended.
