Honestly, the LAI is the best option for anyone interested in Arabic in Beirut and potentially in entire Lebanon. I have taken classes in other institutes in Beirut and Tripoli, but those classes were by far not as good as the classes I received from Samar at LAI. Samar somehow always manages to make sense out of seemingly chaotic grammar of the Lebanese Dialect instead of just saying "well, there are no rules". Her self-written books are very well structured and I still use them to study and practice with my tandem partner back in my country. What I learned from her in two month even helped me to get better at Fusha (Modern Standard Arabic) and really helped me to manage daily life in Lebanon. I really hope to be able to study at LAI again soon. Brian and Samar, thank you so much for everything!!

I cannot speak highly enough of the Lebanese Arabic Institute. I started taking classes there (beginner level, Lebanese Arabic) in October 2017, at the recommendation of a friend. My friend, who had studied both MSA and Egyptian dialect in the past, insisted that the instructor, Samar, was one of the best Arabic instructors that he had ever had, and that the courses were some of the most affordable in Beirut. He was 100% right. I only intended to register for one term of Arabic, but I enjoyed my first course so much, that I have continued taking classes there ever since. Samar's pedagogical approach is truly engaging and inspiring, and I have accelerated more quickly in her courses than in any other Arabic course that I have taken in the past. Beyond that, Samar and Brian (the institute administrator) are incredibly warm and welcoming, and seek to cultivate a sense of community among their students. Some of my best friends in Lebanon are people that I met at the Lebanese Arabic Institute.

Thank you Samar & Brian for everything that you do!

My search for a place to study Arabic could not have been more fortunate. Classes at the Lebanese Arabic Institute are a perfect mix of vocabulary, grammar and speaking exercises. Furthermore the well-structured textbooks, the audio material and the writing exercises are an invaluable support while studying. Most of all, Samar is a great teacher with a true passion for language education. She is humorous, patient and flexible, and knows how to encourage her students to exceed their linguistic limits. Not to forget, Brian always makes sure that the class schedule is well matched with your own agenda. I often discussed with fellow students at university, who were taking Arabic courses somewhere else (e.g. the courses for exchange students at USJ, Saifi, etc.), what we had learned and how each of us was experiencing her/his courses. These discussions strengthen my belief that no other school parallels the Lebanese Arabic Institute. Lebanon is a fascinating country that has offered many new perspectives, but without a doubt, the experience that has learnt me the most is studying Arabic at the Lebanese Arabic Institute. I strongly recommend Samar’s classes!

I have been living in Lebanon for 2 years and started learning Arabic at two different schools, where I actually was very content. A year ago I found the Lebanese Arabic Institute through internet and the teacher has made me love and understand the language without realizing I did not before. The classes at the Lebanese Arabic Institute are of an intens high level since the teacher loves the language and makes you understand everything with a huge smile on your face. Samar is a teacher that developed her own materials and she made CD's and listening materials that are very structured and well written, giving the classes a total different touch than other schools do. Arabic is a complicated language and many schools just teach you how to talk, at this school you learn how to understand the language, see the logics and more importantly you will enjoy learning it.

During my two months stay in Lebanon I wanted to learn Arabic seriously and good. After a friends' recommendation, I contacted the Lebanese Arabic Institute. Since the start of the course, I enjoyed every lesson. Samar, the teacher, is experienced and very qualified in giving tailor made lessons in Levantine Arabic as well as Modern Standard Arabic. From the start I was forced to speak, even if I only knew a little. In this way, I was being taught to feel familiar with the words and pronunciation of the Arabic language. Her explanations are clearcut, which makes learning the grammar very comprehensible. Thank you so much for the incredible time at your school.

Samar is a truly fantastic teacher, who has clearly put an incredible amount of thought and care into developing a curriculum and pedagogy to help students learn Arabic in an engaging environment. She will meet you at your level, and is flexible in adapting lessons and materials to suit your own goals and interests. It is rare to find this level of care and attention in a teacher, and I cannot recommend her enough.

I am extremely fortunate to have met Samar. In just a few short weeks of studying with her at the Lebanese Arabic Institute, I feel like the world is opening up. I recently spent an entire day in Tripoli speaking only Arabic. The method that she has created to teach Lebanese Arabic is brilliant and accessible, beautifully structured but also flexible to take into account the needs and pace of each individual. If I came to class with questions on getting around town, or a list of words I wanted to know, Samar would immediately address these so that I could put them into practice. Studying with Samar was definitely the highlight of my day, not only because of what I learned, but because it was fun. Samar’s beautiful spirit, sense of humor and genuine love of teaching shine through each and every class.
