Hsbc (previously known as the British bank) pulled out of Lebanon on June 16 2017. Taken over by BLOM bank.
Excellent
It is officially the worst bank in Lebanon. I used HSBC in the states for years and really liked it. I opened an account in Lebanon thinking it would be the same. I had my purse stollen in the US so I filed a claim in the US and Lebanon along with a police report stating where the stollen cards were used (basically confirming it was stollen).
It took a few days in the US and the money was refunded.
It took months in Lebanon dealing with very unprofessional, rude and dishonest staff telling lies about when they filed a complaint to Dubai and how they are waiting for a response. At the end, the bank in Lebanon concluded that it is your fault if your card is stollen and you are responsible for the fraudulent charges until you call the bank to stop the card!!!!!! What the hell!!!! Why do I carry a card not cash??? They did not notice a fraudulent pattern and stop the card when someone spent 4000$ in 20 minutes from 4 different stores on a card never ever used before in the US.
I deal now with BLOM and AUDI banks.
If you move to Lebanon, don't be fooled thinking HSBC is the same bank everywhere. It is run by a bunch of idiots.
