Description
To the North of Beirut, approximately 1 1/2 hours, is located the town of Tannourine and Chatine Village. Nestled in the mountains of Lebanon, it lays adjacent to Balou' - the ancient caverns which capture the melting waters of the Lebanese Mountains and channel this runoff to the Mediterranean Sea 30 Kilometers away. These caverns date back 160 Million years to the Jurassic era and are of breathtaking beauty and serenity. The caves are the home of a vibrant eco-system which has long been enjoyed by the people living in the area.
Recently a new venture has been brought into being - Beit El Jabal - The Mountain House. This facility provides a starting point to hike the short distance to the caverns. Local food, music and the wonderful hospitality the area is renowned for are offered to all guests. Guests will have accommodation provided in the form of a modern camping area with a children play area. Delicious Taboule, Hommus and Fatoush are amongst traditional dishes prepared by skilled chef and served to the delighted guests under a 100 year old Walnut tree...
Travelers are also encouraged to travel another 30 minutes north-east to be able to walk amongst the famous Cedars of Tannourine - Lebanon, one of the largest preserves of these magnificent trees in all the Middle East. These trees date back thousands of years and were sought after in ancient times for many specialized uses, from building temples and fortresses, to fragrant incense for use in holy ceremonies.
