  Wat Muang Kang is located on the banks of the mighty Mekong river. The temple features a unique blend of architectural styles. The main chapel (viharn) is a Cambodian-Siamese structure while the wooden sleeping quarters of the monks (kuti) are built in typical Lao style and on stilts. Yet the two story library (haw tripitaka) is  the most amazing building - the ground and first floor blend French colonial and Lao style while the roof is a Burmese and Vietnamese mix. The Wat is still used by nearby communities and is the oldest temple in Champasak.
