Pakse Northern Bus Terminal

  Just wanted to give people a heads up!! Our bus from Vientiane arrived 3hrs late.. which meant we didn’t get in to Pakse bus station until after midnight. The tuk tuk drivers took advantage of this and wanted to charge double the normal rate. @ 40.000 kip each ( 2 of us) it was going to cost more to go the short distance into town than the cost of a ticket to the islands. We refused the first guy because of his smug attitude, then the next guy said 50.000 per person. We gave a definate ‘No’ but had no choice other than pay the 40k each.
  If you are on a budget I suggest risking the sleeper bus where you will have more options in the morning. We absolutely love Lao and it’s people but this left us with a very bad taste! These tuk tuk drivers are going to give genuine Lao people a bad name and it doesn’t help tourism! PLEASE TAKE NOTE AND BE AWARE!! We don’t think ours was an isolated case!!

  If you're going to Pakse town DO NOT get off here.
  The bus drivers will try to hassle you out. Stay on your bus and ask them to stop in Pakse town

  Typical Laos bus station with limited stalls to buy food or drinks. The one for buses heading/coming from north. Yes there will be tuk tuks waiting there to treat you like livestock and take you to the city for 20.000kip. Enjoy
