The Chao Anouvong Park is a beautiful park of the city of Vientiane (Laos), located in the heart of the city, next to the banks of the Mekong River and the Presidential Palace in Vientiane. Chao Anouvong is a Green Park suitable for walks, sport, do some shopping, and admire the majestic statue of the King Chao Anouvong.

Chao Anouvong Park was built in the year 2010 to honor the memory of the King Chao Anouvong. The Park whose English name is Chao Anouvong Park is a Green Park of 14 hectares where the lawn is interspersed with concrete.
Located in a area privileged in the center of Vientiane, Laotian, Chao Anouvong Park capital runs between the North Bank of the Mekong River, the night market in Vientiane and the Presidential Palace.

First thing in the morning it is common to find groups of people practicing Tai Chi, in the evenings many backpackers use Park Chao Anouvong to stop along the way and enjoy a beer beer lao.

Although it is planned to build a shopping mall and shops at Chao Anouvong Park, today you only have green areas and some Street stalls on the road between the Presidential Palace in Vientiane and the statue of King Chao Anouvong.

In fact one of the tours most recommended to enjoy the playground Chao Anouvong is start at the Presidential Palace and walk to the statue of King Chao Anouvong (which gives back to the city, since it is facing the Mekong River), once in the statue of the King, walk towards the West until the end of the promenade along the river, place where market night of Vientiane (night market) mounts each day.

On the other side of the Mekong River, in the distance, we have the neighboring country of Thailand. As you can see in the photo, some people come to the banks of the Mekong River as it passes through the Chao Anouvong Park to fish.

It's difficult to say where Chao Anouvong Park starts and ends on Google Maps The park is really well maintained and a nice place to unwind..The King Chao Anouvong statue facing Thailand is quite imposing by its height by day and by night with its lighting. The walk along the Mae Khong is quite agreeable and stretches long ways on both sides. Locals practicing Tai Chi or Chi Gong in the morning, locals and foreigners walking, running, exercising Lots of work is currently done to enlarge the area which has amazingly changed in the past years.
The Chinese temple is worth a visit too..
Unfortunately some places and walks around were built are brand new, nicely equipped but abandoned..

Great spot to catch sunset in Vientiane City overlooking the Mekong and Thailand. A recreational park for the locals and also a pleasant place to visit for visitors. 5 minutes walk to the night market.

A rather well maintained park close to the river front. You can find some shade during the heat of the day. Maybe if you sit there, you'll be approached by some ladies on a bicycle with a Japanese had who offer you all kind of services like shoulder massage, removing grey hear (and i'm basically bold:-)) or cutting finger nails.

This is the best in Vientiane: river side, clubs, night market. Good place to exercise in the evening. Lots of local here to exercise in the evening.

The statue overlooking to Thailand. Its a park where the locals like to pic nic and relax . There have some shops nearby for drinks and ice creams. Have a few small food shops serves small snacks. Walking distance to the famous night market.

The north side of park is nicer than south side.
Still plastic trash to be found around the park.
Lots of flies.
Fitness equipment here but most is rundown or broken.
2000kip to use toilet.
Shop in front of toilet only has bags of chips and sugary drinks.
Night market on north side.
Statue has no English only Lao explanation.

We did a night visit it was beautiful kids are happy and playing there was some kiosks if u gobfurthere there was a food market with good food and outside seatings while if u go backwards ucan find the night flea market cheap gadgets items and garments

nice park that is behind the presidential building. if you go here, be sure to keep going to past the end of the park to the left side facing the Mekong/south, past the statue and away from the downtown, where you will find the New World area weather permitting. Very clean and similar to many western inter city civic parks. you can see the Mekong River from here and walk along back to the night market area. (this area shows signs of coming development as of June 2017, so there may be more here in the near future)

A perfect place for picnic, plenty of trees to relax under, & plenty of nearby 'talat's or markets to pickup various kinds of food & drinks.
Late afternoon, and on until 9pm, are the evening markets with so many stalls to buy from .. I hardly know when to stop!
Every visit is worth it, time and time again!
