Ban Thouay is a great small village located on the banks of the Mekong River in Laos. There is one actual restaurant and many houses that will serve you noodles on their front porch. The restaurant is called Mekong River Restaurant and is at the end of the main road through Ban Thouay. To get there, you take the road to Ban Thouay off of 13 as you are passing through Paksan, then you go all the way south on the main road until you hit the river. From there, take a left and the restaurant will be on the river side about 50m down the road, with a deck that overlooks the Mekong River. Beautiful food and people. This is not a tourist area. If you are European decent, you will stand out and you may have brave kids approach and practice their English with you. The restaurant has clean bathrooms and a place to wash your hands with Bath and Body Works soap. We thought that was a nice touch.
