It's definitely one of the nicest hotels you can stay in in the city. They don't have a safe in the room, but most places don't have safe either. The market is onlya two-minute walk away. It's a great place to stay when you're up in Phonsavan.

The room was very big and tidy, but unfortunately there was no safe in the room. The staff is friendly. The hotel could not cope with busy times and we had insufficient towels for the two of us. Upon checking with reception we were informed that the towels were still in the laundry. On the second day the same problem.

A somewhat decent hotel but not family friendly. Recently, my family of 5 ( me, my wife, and 3 our kids age 10,12,14) traveled to Xieng Khouang province and decided to stay at Anoulack Khen Lao Hotel. The room has two qeen-size beds, which we felt was acceptable. However, the staff were told by the owner that we would need to get two separate rooms because they only allow three people in the room. We were quite angry because that decision was made just there and then. We asked for a written policy that states that only three people are allowed to stay in a room with two queen-size bed. The staff replied that they had no written policy, it was the wish of the owner. Well, guess what? The owner wanted to gouge us by requiring us to get two rooms; one for our kids and one for us, which as any parents would do we refused to separate our kids from us. Rather having a patron, this hotel got none. We decided to stay at Dok Khoun Hotet. It is not as decent as Anoulack (notice the word "lack") in its name, but Dok Khoun's owner is very hospitable and would do anything to make us feel comfortable. Stay away from Anoulack Khen Lao Hotel for the lack of customer service!!!
