  “Ing” tiếng Lào có nghĩa là dựa, Hang có nghĩa là cây “Hang”, tên của ngôi tháp này dựa vào sự tích đức Phật đi khất thực dựa vào cây Hang để nghỉ ngơi.
  Ngôi tháp này tương truyền có chứa xá lợi Phật do năm vị tăng Lào mang về từ Thiên Trúc. Chia ra để trong 03 tháp mà hiện tại 01 tháp là lãnh thổ của người Thái.
  Đến nơi này đàn ông và phụ nữ đều phải mặc váy truyền thống của người Lào (thuê ngoài cổng), ngay phía ngoài tháp có hàng rào đá, chỉ đàn ông được vào, tương truyền ngôi tháp rất linh thiêng, nếu cầu gì đó hãy đi 03 vòng quanh tháp. Lể dâng là các tháp nhỏ làm từ lá chuối.

  Entrance fee is now 5'000 LAK for foreigners and 2'000 LAK for local people. Nothing much happened while I was there but they have some touts that will take a picture of you in front of the chedi in case you wanna bring some memories back home. Though some young kids approached me to say hello but after asked for money, they weren't pushy at all

  That Ing Hang Stupa is about nine metres high with beautiful carving and decoration. It’s reported to house a relic of Buddha’s spine. The 16th century stupa is located in Savannakhet, Southern Laos. Entrance Fee is 10.000 KIP. Please dress properly and cover Your knees and Your shoulders. You can get here by Tuk Tuk or Motorbike. Ban That is located 8 km north of Savannakhet.
