The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the youngest and largest museum in Central Asia. The museum has been created in the framework of the "Cultural Heritage" State Program on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

With a free entrance, this is one of the places in Astana that you should visit. You need to spend 2-3 hours to visit everything, I think.
Update: Entrance is not free anymore. It is around 800 KZT (approximately 2.5 USD) to 1500 KZT (approximately 5 USD), depending on the parts of the museum that you are going to visit. It consists of several floor (7 or 8 as I remember), and in each floor there are different things to visit. In my idea, it is the best museum and the biggest one in the Astana city. Similar to most of the public places in Astana, if you visit there in the winter time, there is a plcae which takes your heavy coats and clothing and keeps them for you during your visit.

Beautiful museum. Entry fee is 600 KZT, but if you want Gold Road, you will pay 1100 KZT. Opening hours is from 10am till 18pm except mondays (thats closed). Multimedia room just amazed me, so many diplays on the ground and the wall with projection is unbeliavable. Must see! :)

An amazing museum, a must see objective, no doubt! Very impressive, for sure! Just an opinion: they have to remove those "pieces of art" who has a direct connection with Soviet era or they are about the cult of personality - you will understand me if you will pay attention to the artifacts: amazing artworks near some impossible to watch operas Otherwise, wow!

Tour guide is mostly unavailable. Went there with guests 3 times and couldn't find any available one. The biggest drawback - they don't allow to take a stroller with the baby.

Very modern building. Good displays although the lettering explaining the display is very small. I did not have time to see the entire museum. Will definitely go back.

Pros: Cool building. Cheap entry. Decent pre-history display. Additional arts exhibit and visiting/temporary displays

Cons: Astana room is kinda blank. Other than military/political items there's no modern social history displays. Contemporary art exhibit is dull and lacks variety compared to European galleries. Have to pay extra for gold rooms.

Below expectation. They don’t allow baby strollers and you only know after you buy the ticket (if you have little kids then you have to carry them throughout your visit !!!!!!!!!!!!)
The hall of history is the best part.

Love it! I recommend visiting at 3pm since there is a grand show with a huge flying golden bird in the main hall starting at this time. You have to book an English speaking guide in advance, and you can always rent an audio guide. The halls of ancient history and etnography are really good.

Wide, rich and big compilation of Kazakhstan's culture masterpieces. Multi-language audio guide, several souvenir shops. Good place to spend much time.

The huge new museum is an architectural treasure of constructivism as well as a home to the Golden man and an interactive 3D map of Astana. A must see! One big minus o ly works till 5pm.

Nice museum. The exhibitions include ancient and medieval history, Hall of Astana, ethnography, nomadic times and modern history as well. You need to pay an extra 1000T fit the Hall of Gold but I found it interesting. Lots of gold jewellery and decorated items are on display and the audio guide is included. Generally there are not much detailed descriptions which made it less informative so I would recommend the audio guide.
