Fell asleep and missed my stop at Harvard Square ended up here, and stayed for the carrot cake. There were chunks of North Koreans in it, but overall it was pretty good.
When I finally boarded the train around 3am (it was VERY LATE, supposed to have come by 8pm), it seemed very dark inside. I figured some commuters probably sleep on this train at this time, so I played it off. Still, it was, like, pitch black. No indicators, no signs, no lights on either side of the aisle. I managed to get into my seat by touch, and even then I am certain I accidentally brushed against a sleeping passenger. They could have done with a jacket because their skin was, like, ice cold, but whatever, probably a crazy Russian who is immune to cold.
So, as this pitch black cabin starts to slowly roll down the tracks, suddenly there is this Beyond loud scream right outside of the window (or where I suppose a window should be, if I were able to see). I ask aloud "What was that?" No response. Guess the other passengers were somehow still asleep. Must be normal for trains to do that in this country. If they did hear me, they probably wouldn't respond to capitalist scum like me anyway.
So, I decide "When in rome" and try to catch a nap. It is certaintly dark enough, and now that that screaming was over, it was quite as the grave. North Koreans must be such hard workers if they sleep this soundly on train rides!
Other than some rather bad nightmares, the ride seemed to go just fine. I woke up on an abandoned island just off the cost of Guam, and after a short swim, I was soon enjoying myself amongst the natives. Sure, I was trying to go to Russia, but I guess this is better than a frozen alcoholic wasteland.
Ride: 5/5 (Very quiet and relaxing. Trains need oil/exorcism though.)
Staff: 4/5 (Not really attentive, but therefore very polite to sleeping passengers)
Timeliness : 1/5 (Seriously? 8 hour delay?)
Overall: 2/5 (You may wind up in a better place after riding on this train!)
I was in russia and now in north korea
The carrot cake was sold out and the turnip cake proved a poor substitute. The train to Russia was late, but that allowed time for me to read through several volumes of the Dear Leader's writings and purchase his photo. In fact, the police insisted I buy several of his photos! All too soon the train arrived and I was on my way to Vladivostok.
Great place for family fun. Just remembered to follow the rules. Once your done take a fun train ride up to Russia.

i was in russia and now i'm in north korea 🇰🇵😱
WOW!! I was sceptical about this place, but knew I had to try it myself, the carrot cake here was amazing, really glad I came all the way to North Korea just for this. I would have given this place 5 stars, although all the staff were friendly, the dead bodies around was just not acceptable, they really need to smarten up their act.
overall surprisingly friendly. food ok
The carrot cake is excellent and the staff is friendly. The only problem is that being so close to Russia creates a strong and constant scent of vodka and bears on unicycles
Very nice views, although I took a train into Russia and I wasn't expecting that it would lead me into North Korea D:
The staff was friendly and the cafe had very nice carrot cakes. But the transit time was too long (2 hours). Very nice architecture and worth a visit when travelling in northern part of the country.
A nice place for a picnic but no trains! Good place to buy North Korean big rim hats (useful to keep the sun off your face); even bigger than Russian big rim hats. Was told they are building a Disney park here soon.
Stopped in here for a nice cup of coffee and a carrot cake. Carrot cake was a little dry. Coffee was nice though. Would come back again. Three stars.
