A group of 18 of us, travelling with Jetwing Travels, Sri Lanka, visited this man-made lake with a local guide. He told us that this large lake is 8 km long and 2 km wide. We stopped on its earthen bund or levee. There is a large canal carrying water to downstream irrigation fields. There are small shops selling curios, pulses, clothes and soft drinks. You can walk down to the edge of the lake and enjoy a sense of freedom.
It is an interesting site but nothing much to do. Visit here if you have the time!

Went there on a Sunday afternoon. There were a large number of revellers, mostly with families. It was a pleasure to see the happiness of kids running around. Unfortunately no boat was willing to take us to the island in the middle, almost all being in bliss. It is difficult to imagine such a large water body created by human power almost 700 years back. It still functions and irrigates!

Huge manmade reservoir from the Khmer Empire era for irrigation. This sort of serves as a tourist destination for locals, an inland beach with inflated tires and life jackets on hire. The shore is lined with huts housing hammocks in which locals relax.
