Done a cooking class this afternoon and had the best time. Vannak picked us up from our hostel, we picked up his wife and went to his home. Learnt how to cook three traditional dishes after we went to the local village market to get all the ingredients.
Vannak who teaches the course is very welcoming, informative and speaks really good English. He also has an incredible sense of humour. Would definitely recommend this course. I also now have a cook book so I can cook a variety of Cambodian dishes at home. Also for the taste, experience and food the cost is phenomenal.
Such a nice experience! Went to a small market to get the ingredients and cooked several different meals at Vannaks homestay. So so delicious. Learned a lot about how to use the roots and spices from scratch.
Best Khmer food and dining experience I have had since arriving in Cambodia. Vannak and his family serve you, cook your food and entertain you with chat (if you want), while you eat and drink at Smokin’ Pot (named for the hot clay pots that traditional Khmer food is prepared in). Take a seat in this atmospheric garden bar/terrace and watch the streets on Battambang pass you by! I will go back while I’m here!
Very authentic delicious food. Really enjoyed it.
If you are looking for an authentic Cambodian experience, this is a great first stop in Battambang! Whether you’re dining at their restaurant in central Battambang or participating in their cooking school and venturing out to the family farm in a neighboring village, Khmer hospitality and delicious cuisine is sure to delight.
The cooking school has incredible value for money - your USD$12 includes transport, market tour, cooking lesson, massive lunch (or dinner if you opt for the 3.30 class), keepsake recipe book and of course the invaluable local advice and insight offered by the instructor Vannak. Cambodian cooking culture guru Vannak is also sure to show you round the family garden - the place where most Cambodian families source their fresh produce.
Generous with time, knowledge and culture, this class is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
One of the freshest and best meals we had in Battambang was courtesy of a morning cooking class with Smokin' Pot. The visit to the market was a great opportunity to see a real local market off the tourist path and Vannak will helpfully guide you through ingredients. Having the chance to pick the meals you make was also a great plus, as you'll learn the dishes you've probably already fallen in love with. (Fish Amok and Ginger Fish/Chicken are a must!)
The cooking is done in a beautiful outdoor space, away from the city, making it a wonderful escape. To top it off, Vannak shared a delicious papaya from the trees growing on his property.
Overall, this was the best thing we did in Battambang. Highly recommended!
Food was unreal, well priced for quality, the man that runs the place is kind and super helpful
The food was quite tasty, but expensive for the size of the portion - unless you want to fill up on the huge plate of rice that comes with it.
A very interesting experience taking a cooking class with the owner. It was just me and him and I met his whole family, went to the market and cooked at his house. It was a great insight into Khmer lifestyle and well worth the price. The Beef Lok Lok is a must!
Delicious food and nice people, I loved the spicy beef and the vegetarian version of it.
3 stars for the taste but 1 star for the portion sizeespecially the amok.
Came here twice, food was really great (fish Amok was really good). Relatively cheap food. The decor is a little dirty on the outside, but it gives it a more authentic feel. There at time might be yelling children around, so don't expect a completely quiet meal.
The food was amazing. Definitely the best I have had not just in Battambang, but in all of Cambodia. This man knows how to cook Khmer cuisine. If you want traditional food, this is where you need to go.
