Description

Siem Reap Regional Eye Hospital ( SRREH )

The previous eye unit building had an examination room, a refraction/optical dispensing room, staff rooms and 10 patient beds. In general, the eye unit is in disrepair, unhygienic, overcrowded and were not be able to meet the growing demand for eye care services in the near future.

In late 2007, FHF received a request from Cambodia’s National Program for Eye Health (NPEH) and the Siem Reap Hospital to explore the potential for establishing a Regional Eye Hospital (REH) at Siem Reap Hospital. The concept of a Siem Reap REH is included in Cambodia’s National Strategic Plan for the Prevention of Blindness (2008-2015) and has received support from Cambodia’s Minister of Health.

A new three-storey eye clinical building was inaugurated in 11 April 2011 under presidency of Minister of Health and Australian Ambassador to Cambodia and Board of The Fred Hollows Australia.

The new eye health facility are now enable the delivery of secondary and sub-specialised eye care services as well as a variety of training programs for eye health service providers. The SRREH also provides service coverage to approximately 3 million people living in north-eastern Cambodia.

The current SRREH consists of
- Three-story building,
- 36 meter long x 12 meter long
- The current cost of the SRREH construction is USD439556.2.
- Patient Wards capacity : 30-40 Beds

The building has been designed to be accessible for the people with disability, genders and child -friendly by including a ramp, disable people/female/Male toilet and an elevator for their ease to access the service.

The SRREH is also a teaching hospital for training Small Cataract Incision Surgery for local eye cataract surgeons.

The future master plan of the SRREH includes the establishment of sub-speciality services, including: vitero-retina, cornea and refractive surgery, glaucoma, paediatric and oculoplasty.
