A place that is still in Renovations. They need to fasten it up so people can use their cottages. This place is pretty secluded from town and that's the best part about it.

A place for a King. Located close to Kikambala Royal reserve is a great getaway location if you are looking for a less crowded place in the Coast region.

Nice clean cottages with ACs in each room. Decent size pool and a bar inside it. There is a resturant. Or you could make your own food in the kitchen in your cottage.

Edit to previous review: Royal Reserve have undertaken a renovation program, and I'm happy to say that most of the work has paid off. All amenities in the rooms are working, kitchen has now been fully stocked with all required utensils. Some issues still remain; one of the pools has been faulty for a long time, and the algae green color is very off putting. But they're is a second pool, so no big deal. Anyway, upgraded my rating from two to three stars.
This place deserves more than two stars. The nearby beach and two swimming pools are of course a big plus. Maintenance, though, is an issue. Mosquito nets have holes, toilets not working properly, air conditioning units had issues. The room we were given was chock full of mosquitoes, and there was no insecticide available until the next day, which did not make for a very pleasant night. The room had also not been cleaned when we checked in. So, all in all, a bit more attention to facilities and cleaning would go a long way for the Royal Reserve.

I stayed there for three weeks in August 2008 with my family and we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We had a wonderful time and befriended most of the staff who couldn't do enough for all of us.
I would like to return to Royal Reserve, to see the tree which was planted on our behalf for the anniversary.
I hope all of the staff who we met there are doing well in spite of the difficulties Kenya experiences with the government and climate.response / report this review
